Hi...I'm contemplating whether I'm ready to associate both my Computer with DVI and a PS4 with HDMI onto 1 screen and switch between the two presentations through the catch on the screen. I have had a go at associating both, DVI shows my PC as ordinary yet when changing to HDMI all I see is a dark screen, which discloses to me I am getting signal, simply not the image.
Is this conceivable regardless? or then again do I require a type of splitter?

Welcome to our community, BriggTrim.
Generally speaking, your TV will display the signal it receives from a connected device, in this case your PS4. I would recommend adjusting the video output on your signal source to a resolution compatible with the TV.
In my home set up, I use an HDMI switch to send different signals through one TV HDMI port. It's a physical switch, so I have to flip it between devices. I'm not sure what you meant by "catch" on the screen for switching. If you'd please reply with your TV model number, I'll get up to speed.
I hope this helps. Thank you for writing to us.

Like John, I use an HDMI Splitter. I think this would be the best option for you. One thing I would suggest is that if you get one, make sure it has an AC or Wall plug to plug into the HDMI splitter as some televisions don't draw enough power for these devices
