Older TV but new cable provider and still no audio passthrough on Insignia NS L32X-10a

I found an older thread with an audio passthrough problem with Blu Ray players not being able to pass through the digital signal to their receiver while passing through their tv and just getting a linear PCM signal.

I have the same problem with my tv and have put up with the way I have to get around the lack of digital signal using the tv as my pass through.

If I directly connect my new Xfininty cable box optical audio output to my receiver I get a DD 5.1 signal.  if I connect my blu ray player to my receiver using the digital audio output I get DD 5.1 and DTS signals.

If I take those two devices and using the HDMI connection ONLY to my tv and using the optical audio output from the tv to my receiver I DO NOT get anything but Linear PCM.  No matter what I do to the audio settings on the respective devices I

Re: PART 2!! Older TV but new cable provider and still no audio passthrough on Insignia NS L32X-10a

SORRY BUT I ACCIDENTALLY HIT RETURN AND THE ORIGINAL WAS POSTED PREMATURELY.  I WILL CONTINUE BELOW

To continue:

If I take those two devices and using the HDMI connection ONLY to my tv and using the optical audio output from the tv to my receiver I DO NOT get anything but Linear PCM.  No matter what I do to the audio settings on the respective devices I cannot get the audio to change on my receiver.

I have an older A/V receiver so I do not have the luxury of having HDMI ports like the new receivers do but it is fully compatible with DD 5.1 and DTS.

So now that the optical and coax digital inputs on my receiver are used up, I cant play any new devices  that I now have through the receiver.  I cant use my Xbox unless I mute the receiver and just use the tv speakers and the same goes for my Chromecast.

So I am restricted to a 32 inch tv due to the enclosure my tv sits in.  As much as I would like to get a larger tv with new technology I would have to also buy new furniture.  I believe the current 32 inch models do not come with 4 HDMIs anymore unless you pay for a more expensive model.

I have also updated the firmware on the tv but no change in the audio.

DOES ANYONE OUT THERE KNOW WHAT I CAN DO TO FIX THIS PROBLEM EXCEPT FOR BUYING A NEW TV???

PLEASE HELP!!!

THANK YOU

Re: PART 2!! Older TV but new cable provider and still no audio passthrough on Insignia NS L32X-10a

Greetings sweetp267,

Thanks for reaching out regarding the issues you’re having with some audio passthrough on your Insignia TV. Upgrading one component can throw off the complete set-up. We’d be delighted to see what advice we can provide on this.

What is the model number of your A/V receiver, Blu-Ray player,  and the one of your new cable box? We’d be happy to see if we can make any alternative connection recommendations for you. Additionally, we may be able to recommend an HDMI Switcher like this one to free up some of your HDMI ports. We look forward to your reply.

Respectfully,
