Normal behavior or broken device? <Insignia 3-port HDMI Switch NS-HZ335>

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/insignia-3-port-hdmi-switch-with-4k-and-hdr-pass-through-black/6319221....

My TV (Samsung NU6900 series) comes with only 2 HDMI ports, HDMI1 is connected to Satellite TV Provider's box, HDMI2 to this switch, then Switch HDMI1 is connected to a XBOX1S and Switch HDMI2 to an Apple TV box, Switch HDMI3 is empty.

TV has HDMI-CEC (Anynet+) set ON, Apple TV as well, and I have read everywhere the XBOX1S doesn't support HDMI-CEC.

I'm having this problem:  My son turns on his xbox1s and TV and if necessary he pushes the button on the switch to get to the right input (switch hdmi1 in this case), for some reason, turning the tv on sends a signal through the switch that wakes up the apple tv, no big deal, but then after 15 minutes of no interaction between the user and the apple tv (remember my son is playing games using switch hdmi1), the apple tv goes to sleep and turns the tv off (and just the tv) at the same time and then of course he cannot keep playing his game until he grabs the tv remote and turns it on again, but then guess what, the apple tv comes on again and then after 15 minutes and ..... the cycle keeps going.

is this normal? or is it a broken device? i thought it was just the apple tv but no ..... the xbox1s also goes to sleep after some amount of time, the other day it did the same but this time i was watching something using my apple tv and the xbox1s went to sleep and turned the tv off along with it.

help please.

TIA

Hi, chepeloni,

Thanks for joining our community. That certainly sounds like a frustrating issue. Having to turn things back on after a few minutes must be a pain.

Can you try swapping which HDMI cable goes into which port on the television, so your cable box is in port 2 and the switch is in port 1? That may fix the issue.

If it doesn't, please call Insignia support at (877) 467-4289 for some additional troubleshooting.

i just did that.  it didn't help.  everything was off and then by just pushing the POWER button on tv's remote, sent a signal and woke up the apple tv.  i did call support already (spanish dpt), the guy told me to take it back to the store and get a replacement.  i'm afraid it will keep doing the same thing but will try

Hi, chepeloni,

Thanks for giving that a try. I'm hopeful that the replacement will help out. If it doesn't, please give that number one more call and mention it has happened with multiple switches. That'll allow for some additional troubleshooting.
