NS-32D220NA20 will not let me go through channels

Hello, my grandmother picked this T.v. up for my younger sister today. We plugged in everything, cable box, hdmi, the t.v. comes on and a sports channel appears but the remote will not respond or change channels; we called customer support and they are telling me that the remote to our cable box is the only way to change it. My remote is flashing when I press any button so it doesn't seem to be broken, so I'm a bit confused.

If you are using a cable box, then you'd need to change the channel on that box, not the TV itself. You'll want to use the cable box remote for that.
