Enable Optical Audio Out to get sound from TV to receiver? Please Help.

Why is my optical audio out not working?  I can not get sound from my TV to my receiver via the OPT out to the OPT in of the receiver.  I have a Insignia 65” LED 1080P Model: NS-65D260A13.  The OPT Out of the TV is connected to the OPT IN of a Denon – 3D A/V Receiver Model: AVR-1315.  The HDMI Out/Monitor is connected to the HDMI1/DVI of the TV with the settings on the receiver.  The HDMI of the cable box is connected to HDMI1 IN/CAB SAT of the receiver.  I have a picture, but no sound.  Do I need to enable the optical out of the TV?  If so, please advise on how I can do this.  I can see a red light emitting from both the OPT out of the TV and OPT in of the receiver.  I'm not sure if that means anything.

Re: Enable Optical Audio Out to get sound from TV to receiver? Please Help.

Hello lfetty1,

Welcome to Community@ Insignia™!

What signal are you are you trying to send from the TV to the Denon receiver?  Based on the description you gave it would appear the only source device you have is connected to the receiver first.  Does the Denon receiver get the cable box sound?  If so there may be an internal setting on the Denon receiver that is not passing through the audio signal to the TV.

The purpose of the Optical out on the TV would be to take any digital audio sources that are directly connected to the TV out to a Receiver that has an Optical In.  So since your cable box is connected to the Receiver by HDMI first you shouldn't need to use the optical cable at all.  To use the Optical cable you would want to connect the HDMI from your cable box straight to the TV and then use the Optical cable to connect the TV and Receiver.
