Re: Dark screen isssue with Insignia Smart TV with Netflix and Prime

Hi, MarkTocheri,

Thanks for following up.

That (877) 467-4289 number is for Insignia support both in the United States and Canada. I'm sorry you were not transferred properly.

Please call (800) GEEKSQUAD or (800) 433-5778, since it seems that it was determined that your television needs repair. Let them know you are in Canada and that Insignia referred you for a repair. I'm hopeful that will get you tot he right folks for support.

Sincerely,

Thanks. I figured there would be a chance. I guess not. Off to BB tomorrow.

Re: Dark screen isssue with Insignia Smart TV with Netflix and Prime

I'm a loyal Best Buy customer....but this TV should not be sold. It's been at least 6 months on this problem if you follow the online reviews and the posts here on this forum. Just exchange it like I did.

My posts have been removed by BB . Truth hurts I guess . I bought an Insigna , did the phone merry go round , then exchanged for an LG . PROBLEM SOLVED .

Re: Dark screen isssue with Insignia Smart TV with Netflix and Prime

Hi all. I finally got things sorted out. I explained my Insignia issue with Customer Service at my local BestBuy. The rep was very understanding and approved the exchange. I am now the proud owner of an LG 43UM7300 as well. So far, it is an excellent TV; superior to the Insignia. Well worth the extra cost.

Thanks again for everyone's help!

Re: Dark screen isssue with Insignia Smart TV with Netflix and Prime

For HDR content you need to change the HDR Tone Mapping and midlumance gamma settings to make it brighter. I also leave off all features in advanced settings such as edge enhancer, smooth, backlight, etc. Turn them all off (especially on the input you play video games on as that is what game mode does on most TV's anyway) as the are not needed on a digital format with great picture. I'm not sure why TVs of today even have these options anymore? Maybe if you still have a DVD player or a source with 480p resolution but for anything else the picture coming to the TV should already be high quality. Let me know if that helps somewhat?

Re: Dark screen isssue with Insignia Smart TV with Netflix and Prime

You aren't understanding this forum.
There is a significant software (or perhaps hardware) flaw in these TV's. When playing digital HDR content, some of these particular TV's are at first fine (out of the box new). At some point early on within the first days or weeks (or in some cases, right out of the box), the TV suddenly displays an extremely dark, unwatchable picture. Almost BLACK. There is NO settings adjustments that can correct this, (and actually,NOR SHOULD AN END USER HAVE TO, even if it were to help, which it wouldn't in this case). NOTE: When experiencing this, if you were to go back to the guide (Amazon Prime, Netflix, Disney+, etc.) THAT GUIDE IS STILL BRIGHT AND NORMAL. If you select a non-HDR title, the picture quality is BRIGHT AND NORMAL. Play an HDR encoded title again, and it is DARK (near black).
This is NOT a picture quality settings issue....We aren't talking about slightly dark quality on every source issue, or some isf calibration to improve general quality, for example. This is different, specifically triggered by HDR and ONLY HDR content.
