The first step I would recommend is do a google search for
dtv reception map
Look for the recption maps dot com link and you can get a map that will show you your signal strength at a specific location. When you enter in your antenna height it will show you the strength based on your locaiton, including elevation.
You can move the location point around to get exactly where you are located.
I found I had a hard time at my house because there is a line of hills between me and the transmitters.
