Hey there, Avent40,
Welcome to our Best Buy forum community and thanks for creating an account to share this concern with us!
I know that I'm a fan of putting on a good show to relax, but I can imagine that's the opposite of how you feel when your TV keeps trying to scan for channels and turning on by itself. That would concern me too, so I'm glad you decided to reach out for help.
That was smart of you to try a factory reset and remove the batteries from your remote. Since that didn't correct the issues, I think the cause might be something that needs more than troubleshooting for a fix. That said, I recommend checking out our Home Theater Troubleshooting Guide to see if any of those steps help.
If these issues continue after giving those steps a try, I recommend having the TV looked at. If you have Geek Squad Protection on this device, you can set-up an appointment to bring your TV into your local store and have it looked at under your plan. With a 32" TV, we would need you to bring it in, and we'd ship it to our service center to check out what's causing those errors to occur. Otherwise, if you didn't purchase Geek Squad Protection, but the TV is still within the one-year manufacturer warranty, I recommend working directly with Toshiba for repairs.
Cheers,
