Toshiba firetv edition problem

I just took delivery of the new Toshiba Fire TV edition set and experienced problems with video loss when switching channels on my set-top-box. Config: Toshiba 43LF621U19, DirecTV Genie mini/wired, 5G WiFi internet.. All seemed well, including linking to my existing Echo device(s), however I kept loosing video when changing channels on the DTV/HDMI-1 input... but still have audio. It appears to be due to a possible problem with the time it takes for video to sync, and the TV seems to attempt to switch inputs?. I changed HDMI options and ports with no change. I have seemed to be successfull by changing the HDMI cable (between STB and TV). Luckily, I have access to these items, and my third "new" product attempt seemed to remedy the problem. Note: be aware of strange audio sounds when changing channels.. it is even mentioned in the on-screen intro. This is annoying! Now, if I can only find a setup combination that will default to HDMI 1, and not display the "home screen icons" that stay there until you cursor around to accept the hdmi input... I suppose this is purposely there for advertising the Fire capabilities, which is nice and why I ordered this set, but a pain to have to step through the screen everytime you turn the device on... i.e. what I fault with Roku sets.

Re: Toshiba firetv edition problem

Hello klotzkm,

Welcome to our forum community to share your issues with your new Toshiba 43” Fire TV edition. I’m sorry to hear that you’re already having some issues with the set. I’d be happy to see how I may be able to assist you.

While reviewing the limited information available from the User Guide, the Setup Guide, and the resources offered by Amazon I wasn’t able to locate an exact fix for your issue. Have you reviewed the Advanced Options under the Home>Picture menu to see if there’s an option to turn off auto sourcing of the input. I know some TVs do that have option. Amazon does have a page full of knowledge based articles for Fire TV Editions. You’re welcome to review those here.

Re: Toshiba firetv edition problem

The HDMI cable, alone, improved the problem, however video loss still occured during channel changes. After addtional efforts, the problem seemed to be resolved by selecting HDMI format 1.xx vs HDMI 2.xx. This option was difficult to find, and required selecting "Advanced" options. Afterwards, all of my previous HDMI cables seemed to work.

Another config was to enable the smart HDMI input option, this one that allows the external HDMI signal to control the TV (i.e. turn on/off)

Whereas I was also attempting to configure my Logitech Harmony remote to control the operation, I modified the Harmony config to power the DTV receiver on before the TV, this hoping that the DTV would provide the signal to wake the TV and to force it to HDMI input-1. This seems to be working well af the moment.

Toshiba FireTV, not without headaches. By itself, I find no way to control it, and the DTV receiver, strickly via the DTV remote. The DTV receiver can be configured to power the TV on, however it defaults to the TVs "Home Screen", where you sometimes see the DTV video in the upper right preview window, but the DTV remote is not capable of programming any function to force the TV to the HDMI input.... I have experienced similar problems with Roku sets!

Hello Rousta99,

Welcome to the forum! You ask a great question. From my understanding, Fat32 and ExFAT are the preferred formats for USB drives when they are being used for playback on a TV.

I hope this helps. Thank you for writing to us.

Re: Toshiba firetv edition problem

To default to HDMI 1, you can set your preferences to power up on your last input as follows:

For Toshiba – Fire TV Edition TVs, if you want to remain on the last input used when you turn on the TV, select Settings > Display & Sounds > Power On > Last Input

Re: Toshiba firetv edition problem

Ok, I am having a similar but slightly different issue.

All of my input sources work when I plug them directly into the TV. But when I route them through my Marantz SR7008 nothing works. I also tried using a HDMI 4x1 swtiching box and got the same result.

(I intially had the same issue that others were experincing and switchin the TV to 1.4 did help. But I am not sure what I need to do to fix this.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Toshiba firetv edition problem

Hey jkdru,

Welcome to the Best Buy Support Online Forum Community! Thanks for sharing the issue you’re having with us. We’d be happy to see what advice we can provide at this time.

Can you please break it down what you have connected, and how you have it connected? Please also share the model numbers of your TV, receiver, and any other components. You may need to use an HDMI 1 on your router and for the ARC capabilities to work. We look forward to your response to continue helping you with this.

Also, have you confirmed that your inputs on your receiver work at all? You should be able to check this by connecting a different TV to it with your inputs. We look forward to your reply!

Kindly,

Re: Toshiba firetv edition problem

Hi, I have a similar problem. I just intalled new TOSHIBA 55LF621C19 fireTV. Got an hdmi cable from hdm1 to my Yamaha RX-A1070 receiver but I can't get sound to come out from the speakers. I know that my receiver and its hdmi in ports aren't faulty because I've had no issues an hour before with my previoys TV but also because I have other components installed on other ports, switched them around and they all work properly.
