Purchased the Toshiba TV: Model: 50LF621U21 SKU: 6394759
Directv box plugged in to HDMI 1 and RF headphones using the tv's optical audio out.
When watching directv, the optical out works fine, I can listen via RF headphones.
When streaming via the TV's built in apps - Netflix, Amazon etc, no sound is output on the optical out on the tv.
I tried a few audi settings on the tv - no luck.
Suggestions?

Hey there!
I had something very similar happen to my Insignia Fire TV. Have you checked to see the settings on the streaming apps to make sure there is nothing turned off or possibly blocking the audio from coming out?

Well - that's close and it worked for Prime Video - but I can't find a setting in the Netflix app. Strange it's that way by default. Interestingly when you rest the cursor on a movie and it plays a preview it works but when you then try to watch a netflix movie it does not work.

I'm glad it worked for Prime Video! The issue with the Netflix app, is definitely odd though! For me the settings is technically called "Get Help". Can you go there and have it restart Netflix to see if that helps?

Thanks for your help.
Tried the 'Restart Netflix' and no luck...
Frustrating!

Darn! I was really hoping that would work! Well, from here, your best bet would be to look into Toshiba's support site here, or you can call them at: (800) 457-7777. I truly hope you can figure out what is causing that for you.

Mystery solved - 99% user error.
There are 2 settings menus - on the 'new' menu I found, changed the audio output from 'Auto' to 'PCM'.
That did the trick.
Thanks for your help!
