Toshiba Fire TV audio suddenly stopped outputting to receiver (ARC)

I have a Toshiba 55LF621U19 connected to a Denon AVR-S540BT through the ARC HDMI port. It has been working fine for the past year with a few disconnects that could usually be fixed by unplugging both and resetting but now that isn’t fixing things. The receiver powers on and off with the TV but when I try to change the volume I get an error that reads “Volume control unavailable. Volume control buttons are not supported for your current audio output device” despite everything being fine earlier in the day. I can control the TV volume if I turn the TV speakers on but when they are off and I try to control the receiver volume I get the error. I have tried different HDMI cables, returning the TV to the factory settings (twice), tried it with and without updating the firmware, re-set up the speakers and nothing has fixed the problem.

I have no problem getting sound with my gaming systems plugged into the other HDMI ports of the receiver. The receiver does turn on and off with the TV so they are communicating, just the audio signal isn’t getting to the receiver. Again the set up was working fine when it suddenly decided to stop.

Re: Toshiba Fire TV audio suddenly stopped outputting to receiver (ARC)

Hi there, Kirbyhm,

Welcome to our Best Buy forum community! We know that your TV and receiver are important to you, so it hurts me to hear that they aren't working together as intended. That said, we're glad you took the time to bring this to our attention, so we can try to help!

From what you've told me, it sounds like there is a communication issue going on when using the ARC HDMI port. Can you elaborate on what type of remote you're using with the TV and receiver, so I can better look into this?

Cheers,
