Toshiba Fire TV 4K - 50LF621U19 - Extreme Judder

[ Edited ]

Has anyone else experienced extreme judder on this set watching sports?  Anytime watching thru the built in OS, there is judder - and not just when there's fast motion.  Football/basketball players can be walking and the screen jumps subtly.  During fast motion, judder is very apparent.  It's experienced with the ESPN app and DirecTVNow app.

However, when I connect my external Fire TV 2nd Generation box to HDMI and view it with the same apps and programming (live and recorded content) there is no judder.

I'm wondering if I just have a bad unit or this is the way all units are in this line wit the current Fire OS installed?  Perhaps a future update for frame rate matching ({removed per forum guidelines}) will help with judder, but I can't watch sports on this unit (whereas I have other cheap LCD TVs that don't have the judder - while there is some occassionaly, not this pronounced and noticeable).  After setting up 2 days ago, the software/firmware on the TV and remote were updated and no further updates are available.  WiFi connection speed isn't an issue (300+Mbps on tests) and no judder using my external Fire TV 2nd Gen.  I've done the rests per technical support but no futher steps for resolution are available.

Re: Toshiba Fire TV 4K - 50LF621U19 - Extreme Judder

Hello, bhsizemo11,

Noticing that your TV is lagging is very disappointing. It’s frustrating to hear that your 50” Toshiba Fire TV is even doing on lower action scenes too. I’d be happy to see how we may be able to assist you further.

Can you please connect an ethernet cable to your TV to see if that improves the judder issues you’ve been having? If the issues continue this could point to an issue with the TV’s wireless network card. Also, have you tried to power cycle your TV? Also, have you attempted to reset your TV back to factory settings?

I look forward to your reply to learn more about your TV.

Respectfully,

Wireless or Ethernet - same problem.  Wireless speed isn't an issue though with wireless speed tests @ 200+ Mbps.

I have reset the unit by turning off the TV, holding the power button in for 1 minute, and no better results.

Resetting back to factory defaults - same issue.  However, there are no such issues when using my external Fire TV 2nd Gen.

Re: Toshiba Fire TV 4K - 50LF621U19 - Extreme Judder

Hello, bhsizemo11,

Thank you so much for entertaining those troubleshooting steps I provided. I’m sorry to hear that your TV didn’t respond to them. I’d be happy to point you in the correct direction on this matter.

I’d highly recommend giving our Geek Squad a call at (800) 433-5778 if you had purchased your TV within the last year to get assistance under your manufacturer’s warranty. They’d be able to come out and verify if the root of the issue is a faulty wireless card in your TV.

Re: Toshiba Fire TV 4K - 50LF621U19 - Extreme Judder

I'll do a return - not sure why Toshiba phone support and the forums here want to point to the wireless card.  I have absolutely no issue watching Amazon Prime 4K HDR10 episodes with the built in wireless card - none - and that's much more bandwith needy than the DirecTVNow & ESPN apps.  Only on sports is there judder (and that's not due to bandwidth - that's an issue with processing images to the display) - other programming without fast moving objects are fine.
