First off we LOVE this TV! The manner in which it integrates free or subscribed strreaming live channels into the local antenna on screen guide is amazing! This TV should be a cord cutters dream as it greatly mimicks the cable/satellite experience.
A glitch or "bug" if you will that we have run into concernes the audio. Our setup is we are using the OPTCAL OUT running to our Sony surround reciever, Dolby, 6 channel. This receiver has been successfully used with the Amazon Fire box, 1st generation, using optical out with NO issues EVER.
When pausing a streaming video, either from Amazon Prime, or Showtime, or any other source, most often after a pause mode of a few minutes, when resuming play, the audio is drastically reduced, to near muted. It can be turned back up with the volume control of the receiver remote. Tonight however something very different and VERY serious happened. When resuming the video, the sound was at MAX volume and I'm quite surprised that it didn't damage one of our 7 speakers (we have speakers A & B 2 each of course, and 3 surround speakers, we do not use a center channel). This was absolutely insane. While I can patiently wait for perhaps a software update from either Toshiba or Amazon to address a lowering volume level that needs to be turned higher, I cannot bear to think that tonights experience will happen again. It almost killed 2 cats and 2 humans, and/or damaged speakers.
I do have another optical audio cable available and do intend to swap that out tomorrow but I somehow think this is something that is either related to a setting or a firmware update that is needed.
My second point is more of a question, suggestion etc. On Amazon FireTV, even 1st generation, an update was rolled out that allowed us to load Apps onto the USB drive. The 1st generation shipped with 8gig and having the ability to use the USB as memory for Apps was much needed. This TV only has a little over 4 gig and down to 2.4 gig after basic common streaming appes are loaded. Should we be expecting that Amazon is responsible for the firmware update that may allow us to utilize the USB drive for more that just photos and music?
Thanks for any help. I have not seen any postings of anyone experiencing this audio problem anywhere online but it is SERIOUS.

Good Morning, EdDarrah –
Thank you so much for your post to our community! The Toshiba 55” Fire TV is a great choice. I’m sorry to hear that you’re having an issue with the volume. We would be happy to see what suggestions we can make for you.
Have you checked one of our other threads regarding the sound issues on these TVs? We’ve discovered doubling up on sound connections may mitigate the issues in question. Like you’d connect via ARC and optical audio then the issues seem to not be as big of an issue, or stop completely. I know that suggestion sounds odd, but it’s been successful for some of our other friends.
Amazon would be responsible for the firmware of this TV. They’d be should be able shed some more light on to the USB playback functionalities you’ve noticed that may not be an option for this particular model.

Hello, EdDarrah –
At the end of the thread here is a similar, but the root issue was fixed by doubling up the connections. Also, this issue also came up recently with a customer over a private message with the Insignia Fire TV and doubling up the connections seemed to resolve the issue for him too. It’s an option that you’re welcome to try during troubleshooting.
Can you please confirm the model number of your TV? I would be happy to double check if our Geek Squad would be responsible for any manufacturer warranty repairs.

Hi, sorry for the delay in responding. The model # is 55LF621U19. I have reached out to Amazon Fire TV chat support and that Rep told me that the Tv did not have the latest firmware version. How he knew that without my telling him anything is a mystery. I verified the firmware version number to him AFTER he made that statement and I read what the TV displayed. It also said that the last software updated check was earlier that day. I am certain that it has the latest firmware/software version. I find Amazon either great or sometimes difficult to deal with, it can vary day to day or product to product. i also inquired if they would be doing a firmware update to allow the USB drive to be used for app storage the SAME way they did with the FIRST generation of Amazon FireTv set top boxes, THAT was an amazing firmware update. This Toshiba TV comes with less available memory for app storage than the fist generation of Fire TV set top boxes several years ago and while this TV is GREAT it badly needs such an update as there is bare bones minimal storage capacity out of the box. Perhaps Best Buy could forward such concerns to Amazon? For now I am not able to try doubling up on sound connections. My A/V receiver supports TOSLink optical audio OR old style RCA phone/left/right red/black RCA style audio connections. My A/V receiver has NO HDMI inputs. Optical audio is my only way to go if I want to access Dolby Surround. I am convinced this is a firmware/software issue and until Amazon updates the firmware/software..................

P.S. I purchased the 2 year Geek Squad warranty but again I do not think this is a "repairable" hardware issue. Another P.S. something that I forgot to mention, during that chat with the Amazon rep, he gave me a link to download a file (a BIN file) that is to be placed on a USB stick and then gave me instructions on how to FLASH UPDATE the tv! I did download the file BUT knowing that the TV checks for software updates daily I refuse to accept the Amazon reps solution for a few reasons,,,,,,,,,,,one, again, the TV checks for updates daily and installs if any update available.... another reason is the link was for KINDLE!!! I have previously worked in TECH related fields for 18 years and fully realize the dangers of firmware flash updates, especially if you are loading the wrong, incorrect, or outdated version. Such a wreckless approach could render the TV totally useless.

Oh my god this exact same thing is happening to me too and I thought I was going crazy!!!
I don't have anything doubled up as per some of BestBuys replies. I really hope a solution is found!
