Support for the Steam Link app?

I'm interested in the Insignia 24 inch Class F20 Series LED Full HD Smart Fire TV. I am wondering if the Steam Link app can be installed on this TV.  That would allow me to play my Steam Deck games on this TV wirelessly.

If the app isn't compatible, I'd need an HDMI cable, a USB-C to HDMI adapter, and a hub or dock so I can charge the Steam Deck and play at length at the same time.  So, it would be much more convenient if the app were compatible.

Thanks for your help!

Hello, downeaster59,

Welcome to the Best Buy Forums!

I am hoping to pick up a Steam Deck soon myself, and the Steam Link app is a very convenient way to play games on a larger display! From what I can tell via Steam, and other gaming related websites, Valve does not make a version of Steam Link application for the Fire TV platform. Perhaps some of our users here may have some ideas for other ways to use your TV as a display for your Steam Deck that I was not able to find!

I hope you find this information useful! Would you mind sending a message with the information below so that I can document our interaction on our Corporate systems?

Re: Support for the Steam Link app?

One potential thing is that you can try and cast your PC's screen to the TV but that may lead to wicked input lag and make the game no fun. I had owned at one point a Steam Link box when they were closing them out at mega super prices and I found the video streaming to be less optimal than it should have been. The XBOX App on my laptop and my XBOX One has far more superior screen projection and responsive controlls etc.

Check the Steam Link forums on the Steam Website for the latest compatible televisions etc.

Re: Support for the Steam Link app?

Using an older Sanyo TV, I found that I can connect my Steam Deck to it by using an HDMI cable. It works well.  I assume that on a newer and better Insignia TV, it will work even better.

Re: Support for the Steam Link app?

I thought the Steam Deck looked impressive. It really is taking on the likes of Nintendo Switch lite and so forth. I saw the new Logitech device that looks like a Steam Deck but I am not sold on it as I don't understand it much. Is it a device that streams a game using bandwidth from your internet service provider and counts against your data?

If you ask me, the PSP and PS Vita were impressive pieces of technology for their day. And also PS TV which was essentially a Playstation in a sense but it played digital versions of games and I think it was a TV version of the Vita.

Re: Support for the Steam Link app?

The Steam Deck is a versatile device.  Not only can you play Steam games on it, but you can install emulators to play Nintendo Wii, Wii U and Switch games; PlayStation 1-3 games, many Xbox games, and others. I have PlayStation Plus and the Xbox gaming apps installed, which allow me to play may PS and Xbox games. You can also play many Windows and DOS games.

Oh...  you can install and run the Steam Link app on this Insignia TV. FireOS is based on Android.  If you know how to use ADB from a laptop or desktop computer, you can sideload this app as you would sideload any Android app to a Fire or other Android tablet.  I have Styeam Link installed on my TV.  It works beautifully.
