Sony XBR43X800E motion blur with sports

I purchased a new XBR43X800E at Best Buy 3 days ago. Mostly, the picture on the tv is great, but when watching sports, the blurring makes it almost unwatchable, I have tried multiple MotionFlow settings (including turning it off) but nothing seems to correct the problem. The reviews I read prior to purchase said this was a good TV for sports and that the motion was excellent but I am unable to duplicate that experience.

Is there a recommended setting to fix this issue? I was attempting to watch hockey on NBC and football on ESPN via a Direct TV Genie.

Re: Sony XBR43X800E motion blur with sports

Good Afternoon greganderson3,

Thanks for joining our community! I’m sorry to hear that two games you’ve watched are suffering from what we call the “Soap Opera” effect. I understand it can surely be frustrating. I’d be delighted to make a few recommendations.

I know you shared that you turned off the motionflow, but did you turn of the Cinemotion as well? You can do so within the same Advanced settings menu. Have you reached out to Direct TV to discuss your concerns? It sounds like you do have a newer receiver, but it could also have do something with how your TV is receiving that information. I hope those options fix the issue.

Re: Sony XBR43X800E motion blur with sports

Hi Mariah,

Thanks for the response and the suggestions. I'll keep tweaking the settings to see if I can improve the picture and will see if the new Directv receiver has a role in it.

Re: Sony XBR43X800E motion blur with sports

I have a different model, but yes.  I have the XBR49x900E.

It almost seems like it's dependent on the source.

When I tried casting a MLB game from the NBC Sports app to the TV, because there is no native NBC Sports app on AndroidTV, then there was a lot of blur.  I tried this 2 different days.

When I tried watching a MLB game on YouTube, and turned off both MotionFlow and CineMotion, it seemed better.  Not great, but better.

When I tried watching a game from the MLB.tv' app, it looked great.  I then checked the settings, and it had MotionFlow set to Smooth and CineMotin set to high.  So I'm not sure what to think, given these inconsistencies.  Apparently the settings for MLB.tv were different because that display profile category was "Apps", while YouTube was "Apps (video)").

Are there some global settings I can set?  I don't want a different display profile category for every type of app.  I just want to set it at something and watch for a while to see what I think.

I also tried changing the resolution under clarity to max, and I think it helped a little, but I'm not sure.

Re: Sony XBR43X800E motion blur with sports

Not really. I get the best results with MotionFlow and Cinemotion turned off but I still get motion blur with sports viewing. DirectTV pretty much blamed it on 4K Ultra HDR TVs, in general. I do not have access to 4K channels so I don't know if that makes any difference.
