Cary,
See my previous post just before your post. I cannot say this is going to fix the problem BUT since making those changes our TV has been acting as it should with the buil tin apps.
I agree with your feelings regarding Sony. I expressed that with the small dealer I purchased mine from and I would still melt this thing down and buy a Samsung if I could afford to waste a $4K TV. I cannot of course. Sony's customer support for me was programmed blame the internet at all costs.
But once I found the energy optimization settings buried under the apps settings and disabled most of them our TV has acted fine. The entire thing struck me as Sony was working overly hard to optimize energy usage to the point it was killing their apps.

Sadly, turning off the app energy optimization settings has not fixed the problem. It seems to freeze less often but still freezes. Sony does not appear to be addressing the issue on this end and it has gotten really difficult to call their technical support number given they seem to mostly go through a scripted set of things to do which results in being told to install a new wifi system (I am hardwired via ethernet) or to contact my internet provider to see what is wrong on their end. Appears if you buy a Sony 950G set you are getting essentially a semi smart TV and may as well plan on buying a roku device if you want uninterrupted streaming services. Buy the Samsung and save the trouble.
