I'm Buying a new 55 " TV next month I looked at the Samsung 55JU 6500 and Samsung 55JU 7000 and Sony 55 X850C and Sony X810C
The Sony 55x810C has excellent contrast as measured at rtings .com ~ 5203:1 none of the other sets above get close to that .
The 55 Ju 7000 has a PLS ( IPS type ) panel whereas the other sets are VA panels and would have better blacks and contrast.a high priority here .
I'm thinking to buy the Sony X810C it's measured contrast is much better than the Samsungs I looked at and the max brightness measurement is ~ the same as the Sammsung JU 6500 but not as bright as the SUHD JS 7000 with wide color gamut I hyave seen or the Samsung JU7100 which I havent seen .
The other thing is the 55X850C is edge lit and can have edge light bleed at night and the 55X810C is rear lit like the Samsungs so thats another prefernce not to mention I've owned 3 Sony TV's and they have all been very good so I'm not adverse to Sony's .
The problem is when I looked at the Sony X810C at BB it was way up high on a wall near a store light so I coukdent make a fair evaluation of it as opposed to the other sets bedcause VA panels have a lot of color shift at any angle .
I liked the brightness and vibrant colors on the Samsungs OTOH I usually like Sony's color .
I have a 40" 2013 Sony Bravia and it has very good color ,blacks and similar contrast to the X810C but can only manage ~ 175 NIT peak brightness as oppsed to 265 NIT on the Sony 55X810C .
The Samsung JU 6500 and Sony X810C are 275 and 265 NIT's peak brightness on 50% of screen with ANSI B/W pattern so I'm thinking they might be similar in that respect with the Sony X810C maybe having better 1080P upscaling and definitly better contrast and blacks.
My question would be if anyone has seen these 3 oe 4 sets under better conditions for the Sony and how did they compare and can the Sony match the JU 6500 brightness and not wash out the color .
Next question how does the Samsung 50 JS7000 look it has a VA panel but doesent maeasure blacks and contrast as well as the Sony but it can get brighter at maybe 325 NIT ?

Personally I would go with the Sony. I really like the color quality on them and they really snap.

Update from OP Bought an XBR 55X850C in Early DEC.
Good answer I looked at the Sony XBR 55X810C it was nice but then I looked at the XBR 55X850C it was immediatkly apperant to me I wanted the XBR 55X850C Trulumunous WCG set.
The Sony's seem to have very accurate natural colors as opposed to the Samsungs which seem oversaturated in the stores and the Sony upscaling is second to none with the Sony XBR Triluminouos Wide Color Gamut sets like an X850C being more vibrant than a conventional bt709 LCD like The Sony X810C or Samsung JU 6500 .
IMO it was worth the extra $200.00 or more for the X850C over the X810C I bought it for $1199.00 during the first week of DEC 2015 at Best Buy and havent regreted it .I put it on a full motion wall mount w/concealed wireing next to my PC desk in here so I can point it there or straight back and pulled out at nite .
I also put an inexpensive Antec HDTV ambient 65K white LED lite strip kit from Amazon on the back and plugged it in a TV USB port that's a must have on any LCD it really evens out things in a dark or semi dark room .
I have a 3 GB dedeicated USB HDD for the TV with a lot of 4K videos and demo loops on it along with 4K HDR demos and DVD ISO rips.
Some of that 4K wide colorgamut and 4K HDR stuff is stonking good and othewise the TV can make a stonking good picture out of anything decent even ATSC OTA broadcast , Dish HDTV (on a goodchannel) the Netlixand & Amazon AnrdoidTV apps ,Roku or a decent DVD or outta my HTPC .
5 star Blue Rays upscaled to 4K in the TV out of a PS3 and in Wide color gamut in theTV are much better and look better than any Blue Ray I've seen in a coventional bt709 1080p set and a lot of 4K sets .

Hey FrancoBluto,
I loved reading your posts this morning! You really do your research on your TV purchase which is great, and you shared it with our community. Thank you so much for allowing us to be your soundboard for that!
Triluminos for the win! Did you know Sony refers to their technology behind Triluminos is using all the crayons in their color box?
HDR is growing, and from what was shown as CES in January it will be huge selling point for the major TV brands we carry when they release their 2016 models later this spring and over the summer.
You made a great choice with critical thought, I hope enjoy your new 55X850C for years to come!
Best Wishes,
