I need a receiver that works well with Bose Acoustimas​s 6 speakers.  The old first version.  I would really like to keep using the speakers.  My receiver died and I'd like to get a new one with all the modern hookups, HDMI etc.

Thanks for reaching out to us for further assistance on getting some recommendations on your new purchase. To be honest, it’s my favorite to help with these types of things!

After doing some research on your existing unit, Bose Acoustimass 6, I noticed that you shouldn’t have any issues picking out a newer receiver. Do you know exactly which generation you have?

The connections behind all Bose Acoustimass are universally have the same idea where you connect your speakers to the module, then the module to the receiver. Most of the connections will need to be hardwired or you can use banana plugs to finish the connections. Here’s where you can find those plugs!

It appears that you will be needing a receiver that is a 5.1 or higher channel system plus one that can’t push out more than 750. (We don’t need you blowing any of your speakers!)

Pioneer, Sony, and Yamaha receivers are some of our highest purchased items with the most positive reviews. They also have all the new-fangled bells and whistles you are also looking you!

Yamaha RX-V379BL:

This is a 650W 5.1 Ch 4K Ultra HD and 3D Pass-through receiver. It has the correct connections to be able to hardwire your speakers from the module plus use the module as your subwoofer. Bluetooth and an AM/FM digital tuner are also included on this model.

Pioneer VSX-530-K:

For our Pioneer option in the same price range, there is this model with 700W total power which would be perfect as you would always be 10w from maximizing your speakers.  This model also has Bluetooth! A new standard of 4K Ultra HD and 3D pass through is present on this Pioneer as well.

Sony STRDH550:

This one you would need to finish those connections with those banana plugs I mentioned earlier, but it can handle 725W. It has the built-in AM/FM tuner with Bluetooth, and a USB port on the front for easier access!

All of these receivers are great options if you aren’t looking for something too ecentric, and don’t have other needs like multi-zone or a certain grade Digital Dolby Sound you’d like to achieve.
