I have exact same issue as them and I have a Toshiba Fire TV edition 43LF621U19. After factory resetting I can’t connect to my remote at all and even though the Mobile app connects I still can’t get past the “searching for your remote” screen

Welcome to our Best Buy forum community! Thanks for taking the time to create a forum account to share this concern with us. Watching TV should be a time of enjoyment, so it makes me sad to learn that you're in this position.

 

I'd be happy to look into this deeper to see what troubleshooting steps we can attempt to try and get past that "searching for your remote" message. Can you elaborate on what type of remote you're using? Are you using the remote that came with the TV or a different type of remote?

 

The more details you can provide on the situation, as well as what steps you've already tried, the better I can assist.

I’m using using a brand new Amazon fire stick remote I bought from Best Buy because I can find the original remote that came with the TV

Losing a remote is stressful enough, so I can imagine how frustrating it is to purchase another remote only to get stuck on a screen saying it's searching for your remote. That's no fun, but hopefully our troubleshooting steps can make it so you can go back to enjoying your TV soon!

 

Here are some things you can do that should help:

 

  • Move your remote closer to your TV. You'd want to be within 10 ft. of the TV when using the remote.
  • Unplug your TV from the power cord or adapter, wait 30 seconds at least before plugging it back in
  • Use the Fire TV app to pair your remote. 
  • Check to see if you have any other controllers paired to your TV. If you do, remove one of them before trying to pair it your new Amazon Fire Stick. 

If you're still not able to get past that "searching for your remote" message, I recommend contacting Amazon's Fire TV Stick support at their number, (877) 943-5444, to see what troubleshooting steps they have to assist with this error message.

Okay I’ll try to call them but do you think the issue might be because I’m using a generic Amazon remote that’s supposed to be for the fire stick. Do you think if I used a remote that usually comes with/made specifically for the TV such as the CT-RC1US remote I would have better luck pairing? Or does the model of remote not matter as long as it’s an official Amazon remote?

Great question, Jonathanest!

 

While you'll get the best results from the remote that's designed for your TV, the one you're using should work if it was advertised to work with your type of TV.

 

The remote being designed to work with a variety of devices does make it so that there is a higher possibility of receiving an error, but Amazon's support should be able to help you with troubleshooting so you can get back to enjoying your TV!
