Hello, wasn't sure where to look for this but I have a question about buying a used surround sound system. I'm currently in college and want a system that I can use to both watch sports and play music on when i have friends over. I found a sony set on craiglist being sold for $50 but the person didn't have a reciever so I had no way of testing to make sure they worked and also would've had to put out money to buy a new receiver anyways.
The other day on facebook marketplace I found a 5.1 onkyo surround sound. It is the Onkyo HT-S3500 home theater system. It is about 4.5 years old and the guy sent me a video the other day of it working (and also offered for me to check it out in person).
His profile seemed pretty legit so I'm not worried about that, I'm just wondering if for $60 it would be worth it to buy this used system in pretty good condition. For the audiophiles out there, I'm guessing its not the best system, but for a thrifty college kid on a budget, it would be perfect.

It's actually not too bad at all, especially at that price it's a good deal. It's also way better than anything Sony puts out in the Home Theater in a Box product lines. As long as you're not worried about Dolby Atmos decoding or 4K HDR, this system is fine. The HDMI ports are unfortunately going to hold you to 1080P, although you can get Dolby Digital TrueHD and DTS Master Audio formats via the HDMI connections.
