My Tivo recently quit. So I moved the cable box from my daughters room to the main TV. I am looking to get her hooked up with a ROKU in her room.
To that end I am thinking to get a decent quality monitor with HDMI input to hook up. Now I now many monitors have a better resolution than many TV's but will the picture still look good?
I know I could buy her a TV but she does not have a cable box in her room anymore

Picked up a 24" AOC monitor. On sale for $99 today.
Hooked up the Roku Streaming stick.
Beautiful picture. Hooked up some old computer speakers to the headphone jack on the monitor and we are good to go.

A 1080p PC monitor will supprt a Roku set at 1080p that can output 1080p 24/1080p30/1080p/60 dependong on the content and Roku model .thats an obvious answer to aproblem that doesent exist on a 1080p HDMI monitor .
You can alslo use DVI-D at the PC monitor if it has that and HDMI connecion at the Roku with an adapter cable the 1080p *** digital video data is the same over either cable .
With a PC monitor without HDMI -ARC or an analog or digital audio output one would need an alternate digital or analog audio path from the Roku to an amplified device .
Since I answered the qestion correctly maybe I should get the KUDO ? ☺☺☺

For all practicle pourposes outside of HPCP and CEC data and ARC video data is same same at 1080p 24/30/60 /2160p /24/30 /60 up to 4:4:4 pixel chroma or RGB 1-255 on HDMI or DVI-D without video degradation from one to the other. Newer Display Port 3 can do high bit depth HDR 8K .
I have it both ways up to 4K here and there is no video degradation from one to the other on 4 PCs ,4 monitors and 2 extended desktop TV's here being used for PC uses and as TV's .
This newer 2016 Haswel Core i5 HP desktop PC is using HDMI to a 55" 4K HDR Sony XBR at 4K into HDMI 2.0a at the TV and 2560p on DVI-D to this 27" monitor with excelent results.
I use alternate digital audio paths out from the TV to a modest 5.1 .along with some small analog ampified USB Amazon Basic desktop speakers or a USB Schit Audio stack and decent studio phones when I want those on instaed of TV> 5.1
or the smal PC speakers . I have Roku ,OTA 32 locals and a D*TV mini genie room client and PS3 in here also along with all the Anrdoid Sony TV apps, Netlix and Amazon Prime ,VUDU and 2 dedeicated 3tb media HDD for the TV and lossless FLAC music .....
IOW too much for an old man to watch ☺ .
