OK I didn't read much past your begining because somebody lied to your dad or your dad lied to you about the cost of Home Theater. For $10,000 I could set up a system what would blow you away and that is with the cost of the TV. Assymetric room or not. Most of the good recievers are able to calibrate for your room size and shape. Dolby Atmos especially.
The device your using the headphones on has to support the sound format you looking for. If you were to plug headphoens into the headphone jack on a TV it would only be stereo.
I have a computer that supports Dolby Atmos and 7.1. I purchased Razer Nari headphones and on many, but not all games it is steller. That is becuase not all titles support higher end sound.
