LG OLED and LG Soundbar with eARC and HDMI-CEC input problems

I purchased a LG OLED CX and a LG SN Soundbar with eARC capabilities.  I have connected external devices to the TV (HDMI 1 - cable box, HDMI 2 ARC - the LG Soundbar, HDMI 3 - Apple TV, HDMI 4 - Fire TV Stick).

When I turn on the TV, it always defaults to HDMI 4 ands when I try to switch to HDMI 1, does automatically returns back to HDMI 4.  If I disconnect Fire TV, the same thing then happens with HDMI 3 (the Apple TV).

If I disable SIMPLINK on the TV, the TV automatically renables SIMPLINK.

Amy ideas?

Re: LG OLED and LG Soundbar with eARC and HDMI-CEC input problems

Hey there, raking,

Welcome to our Best Buy forum community!

We know that getting a new TV is a big deal, so it's understandable that you'd want to figure out why the HDMI input is changing the default setting on its own. I know that would frustrate me as well, but I'm glad that you took the time to share this with us, so we can try to help!

I recommend going into your TV menu and turning off the Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) feature, as it's meant to make things easier by automatically changing the HDMI source to the one it thinks you need, but seems to be misunderstanding what you're trying to do.

Some other great ideas to try can be found in our Home Theater Troubleshooting Guide, as sometimes resetting the TV to factory settings can correct this type of issue as well.

If those tips don't do the trick, please let me know the exact model of the LG OLED TV you purchased, so I can take a deeper look into this.

Cheers,

Re: LG OLED and LG Soundbar with eARC and HDMI-CEC input problems

I am using an LG OLED 55CX.  Turning of HDMI-CEC is not ideal.  In fact, one of the purposes of purchasing a TV of this price is for its HDMI-CEC and eARC capabilities.  Turning off features does not seem to be a good solution just to get the TV to work properly.  Therefore, the automatric switching of HDMI sources could point to a defective TV set?

Re: LG OLED and LG Soundbar with eARC and HDMI-CEC input problems

Hello, raking,

Thanks for letting me know where you're coming from. I can understand how turning off that feature is not the solution you were hoping for, so I'm happy to look into other options.

Did you try out the tips in the Home Theater Troubleshooting Guide that I linked, to see if that corrected things?

Cheers,

Re: LG OLED and LG Soundbar with eARC and HDMI-CEC input problems

I have power cycled the TV, ensured it's on the latest firmware, changed all the HDMI cables, power cycled all attached external devices (Apple TV, Fire Stick and game console).  I have also ensured all external sources have the latest software installed.  None of these actions have imporved the issue.

Re: LG OLED and LG Soundbar with eARC and HDMI-CEC input problems

Thanks for elaborating on the different steps you've tried, raking!

However, I'm sad to hear that none of them gave the result you were hoping for. From what you've told me, it sounds like the next best step would be to have a Geek Squad Agent come out to your home and get everything setup for you. That way, they can get everything working together as intended, so you shouldn't keep running into these concerns.

That said, with everything going on with Covid-19, we're still limited in what we can do in people's homes at the moment, which you can learn more about on our site here. I recommend keeping an eye on our site for any updates on when we'll be able to provide those in-home services again, so you can set up an appointment.

Best Wishes,
