LG NB5541 Sound Bar Issues

Hello,

I've been dealing with an issue with my sound bar. It keeps changing inputs on its own. I don't know how to fix this or if it's an issue I can even fix. I got this in January 2015 and has been an issue for quite a few months.

I've tried unplugging/resetting it. Tried different audio cables into my TV. This is my only device hooked up to my TV.

Please help?

Thanks,

Kevinh

Hey Kehvynh,

Thanks for reaching out to us on this. What is the exact configuration of your system? What sources are hooked into this soundbar? What TV do you have?

Re: LG NB5541 Sound Bar Issues

I have a Sony Bravia XBR-65X810C Tv and just the sound bar hooked up to the tv by optical wire. That is all that in my set up. Really basic.

Re: LG NB5541 Sound Bar Issues

So you're taking the optical out on the TV and connecting it to the optical in on the soundbar? And when you say the soundbar keeps changing inputs you mean it changes from the optical in source to another source (like HDMI, etc..) causing the sound to shut off completely since there is no signal going to that source input?

Re: LG NB5541 Sound Bar Issues

Yes that's correct. It changes to other modes such as Bluetooth, optical, usb, hdmi as its trying to find signal. It also does it while I'm using the Bluetooth feature of the bar as well.

Re: LG NB5541 Sound Bar Issues

So my best guess is either the remote is defective or the sound bar itself is defective. It simply shouldn't change input sources unless you specifically choose this with your remote.

One way to test to see if it's the remote would be to turn the TV and sound bar on, set the input to the optical in that is connected to your TV, and then take the batteries out of the remote; if the input source stays on optical in, with the batteries out of the remote, you know the remote is defective. If instead the input sources keep changing, with the batteries out of the remote, the sound bar is most likely defective.

If you do determine the sound bar is defective you could look into seeing how much it would cost to repair it by either bringing it into a Geek Squad precinct in one of our stores, or by contacting the manufacturer directly.

Re: LG NB5541 Sound Bar Issues

I've been looking for an answer to this problem for the LG sj3. It just randomly happened to me and i tried turning off everything and restarted again, changed batteries and played with the settings on tv. Nothing worked.
So I think I figured it out and it's working so far. Try the instructions below which I copied from the LG SJ3 soundbar manual :

BLUETOOTH connection lock (BT lock)
You can limit Bluetooth connection to only
Bluetooth and LG TV function to prevent unintended
Bluetooth connection.
Press and hold AUTO POWER ON on the remote
control for about 2 seconds to turn on this function
in Bluetooth function.
To turn off this function, press and hold AUTO
POWER OFF on the remote control for about 2
seconds in Bluetooth function.
Even if you set up Bluetooth connection lock
to On, this sound bar turns on by Auto Power
function.

Hope that helps

Re: LG NB5541 Sound Bar Issues

In my case my latop is causing the  switch from optical to blue tooth when ever it reboots or comes back out of sleep mode. It send an inquiry packet to  see what bluetooth devices are currently available. this causes the LG sound plate to respond with an acknowledgment packet and to send that packet it has to switch to bluetooth mode.

My solution is to  turn the sound plate off for a minute or two until the laptop has re-connected with its assigned bluetooth speakers (an isignia  unit I got from BB). Once tht compeltes I can then turn on the LG sound plate and manually switch it to optical.

Re: LG NB5541 Sound Bar Issues

I have also an issue wit my LG soundbar changing to optical by itself. ISSUE SOLVED BY REMOVING my soundbar in "settings" then "Bluthtooth and other devices" then "Audio". If you need to use soundbar using bluetooth later, just reconnect the soundbar settings.
