Issue with Toshiba 32 inch Fire TV

I purchased this TV just a few months ago and until recently everything was fine but for some reason I'm suddenly having an issue whenever I connect my Nintendo Switch. No matter what HDMI port I connect it to, the screen looks distorted - the screen is broken into six distinct vertical lines that are each slightly brighter than the last (going from left to right) but all equally fuzzy. I can still see the display from the Switch but it's extremely distracting and headache-inducing to do so through all the fuzz. I've tried using a different HDMI cord with the same issue. I've tried plugging the Switch into another TV, as well as using it on it's own, to make sure there was nothing wrong with it and it worked perfectly fine. I'm really not sure what's going on here. When I try using my DVD player on the TV it seems to be ok and the TV's home screen and apps all work perfectly fine - it's only when the TV is connected to the Switch but, as I said, the Switch itself is perfectly functional. Weirdly, it does also get distorted when it shows the preview of the Switch screen in the upper right corner of the home screen when I'm clicking through the input options.
I've tried restarting the TV, completely resetting it, checking the TV for updates (there were none), even changing the picture settings. Nothing has worked. This is extremely frustrating, especially since the main reason I bought this TV was to use with the Switch and it's worked for months and then with no explanation, no changes to anything, it's gone completely nuts.

Re: Issue with Toshiba 32 inch Fire TV

Hello, deannab95,

Welcome to our Best Buy community forum!

We want you to enjoy your Nintendo Switch and Toshiba 32" Fire TV, but I can imagine that's getting hard to do when the screen gets blurry whenever you try to hook it up to your switch.

It sounds like you've tried a lot of great steps, so I'm sad to hear that none of them cleared up the issue. I know that unplugging everything and then plugging it back in, along with switching to the ARC input has resolved a Nintendo Switch situation like this in the past.

Can you give that a try to see if that does the trick?

Cheers,

Re: Issue with Toshiba 32 inch Fire TV

I am having this same exact problem and haven't been able to fix it. I even replaced the tv with a new Toshiba fire tv and the same problem occurred on the new tv. Switch works fine connected to a different tv though.

We've tried unplugging everything and it was in the ARC input to begin with. No change.

Re: Issue with Toshiba 32 inch Fire TV

Hello,

We want you to be able to enjoy your Nintendo Switch in a way that works for you, so I'm sad to hear that the troubleshooting step I recommended earlier is not doing the trick. However, we're grateful that you took the time to let us know so we could look into this further.

At this point, it sounds like it's something about this specific model that is not communicating with the Nintendo Switch as intended. Please contact Toshiba, who can be reached by calling 1 (800) 457-7777. They would be the best contact, so they can be aware of this concern when trying to hook-up a Nintendo Switch to their Fire TV, as well as provide you with next steps for trying to find a solution.

Cheers,

Re: Issue with Toshiba 32 inch Fire TV

Any resolution to this issue? I am having the same problems with my Nintendo switch on the Toshiba Amazon Fire TV. Tried switching HDMI cords, all different HDMI ports, works fine on other TVs. Would like some type of fix for this.

Re: Issue with Toshiba 32 inch Fire TV

Hi there, Tbright0223,

Welcome to our Best Buy community forum! We want you to get the most out of your TV, so I'm sad to learn that you're running into the same problem when trying to connect it to your Nintendo Switch.

Although I wish I had a better answer, as I mentioned on this post earlier, this concern does seem to be specific to this Toshiba model, so we recommend contacting them for next steps. You can work with Toshiba by calling 1 (800) 457-7777.

Best Wishes,

Re: Issue with Toshiba 32 inch Fire TV

I'm having the exact same issue. Worked since November, then poof, its blurry on Toshiba 32" fire tv no matter what I do.

Calling Toshiba for TVs manufactured after 2015 is: (855) 527-2411

Nintendo customer support was not helpful for this issue.

I'll post if I find a fix, and hope others will do the same.

Re: Issue with Toshiba 32 inch Fire TV

Ok, so after much aggravation (and a little aggression), I finally got Toshiba to admit that this is a known problem to them. This is a specific issue with the Nintendo switch and they don't know yet if it's software or hardware related. You can call the aforementioned number and request an escalated case to be notified with any updates on the matter. A different option is to have the TV sent to warranty repair, but no guaranteed fix and it may be slow.
