Currently have a sony HDTV, receive all HD channels except on in my area

Here's the kicker, I can hook a converter (HD signal to SD signal) and then I get this channel

Does anyone have any suggestions or solutions to the issue?

I really don't want to use my HD tv to receive standard signals on all my channels, because once convertor box connected to my tv, my HDTV does not seem to receive the HD signal on its own anymore

You did not say how you are receiving your HD signal.

If you are trying to get it over the air, then I would suggest going to www.antennaweb.org, give it your address, see what channel and see what the site antenna it recommends to get the channel.
