I just went through the same deal... I just purchased a TV for my bedroom, and what people had said to me is that the dimensions of the room you are going to put it in, and how far you will be viewing the TV from will justify what size to get. My room is roughly 16'x23', my bed sit directly in front of the wall I wanted to place my TV on, and it is approximately 14' from pillow to wall. What this means is that in order to get optimal viewing, they say that anything over 47" requires you to view from 10+ feet of the screen. I got a 52" Sony Bravia, and it is nothing less than prime!! So, that being said, If your seating in the living room is more than 10' away, go with the 42"+. Just a helpful opinion.
