HDMI option greyed out on TV

I purchased a roku and have been using the HDMI option for that for a few days. Prior to that, we have used it to hook up our laptop so I know it works.

Randomly today, the TV said no signal and the hdmi option is greyed out. I've moved hdmi ports, rebooted the TV and tried to access the input option from the actual TV but everything I try it's still greyed out. I wonder if I hit something on the remote by accident.

My TV is about 10 years old and is an insignia. Any ideas?

Re: HDMI option greyed out on TV

As a wild guess I would say the hdmi controller on the TV motherboard gave out.

Have you tried hooking up the laptop again just to doulble check that.

But if it is greyed out I would not think it would work.

Hello, Shortbutsweet2u,

Thanks for joining our community! Not being able to use your Roku is definitely a concern. I would be glad to help you anyway I can. Have you tried connecting other devices through the tv's HDMI ports?

Yes, it's still greyed out. I have tried hooking my laptop up and it's still not offering any HDMI options. I have tried other HDMI ports as well.

I was afraid the motherboard may have given out. It is an old TV. 😣😫

Re: HDMI option greyed out on TV

Hi,

If your tv has a way to factory reset, I would try that first. If not, then it could be a broken HDMI port or tv. If the tv has a warranty on it, I would try to have it fixed or diagnosed.

Thanks,

Re: HDMI option greyed out on TV

There may be a solution but its a temporary fix. They sell adapters that can convert the signal from HDMI to Composite or Compoent connection its a modulator which people who have older televisions use to convert the signal. That may extend your TV life and buy you time until you have more time to buy a new TV. These TVs that are older are generally more expensive to repair.

Check to see if your TV has the Red White an Yellow connections
