Is there a way to successfully get digital sound via the TV? I have my XBOX 360 hooked up to the tv using an HDMI cable, and an optical audio cable connecting the TV to my audio reciever but am unable to watch movies or play games in dolby digital sound. In the options menu under audio there is an option to switch the optical audio out from the default to dolby digital but this option is ghosted and I am unable to make the switch. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
It depends on what TV you have. Most TV's wont pass thru dolby digital sound, its optical out can only output Dolby Digital sound from its built in digital tuner. Check you manual. Why not connect your XBox directly to your receiver.
Thanks for the info on tv output. I had the Xbox hooked up directly, but with the HDMI cable there is no output for the optical out from the Xbox. It seems there will be a tradeoff between best video with reduction in audio, or best audio with a reduction in video.
