Digital Antenna and right TV to buy

I have a digital antenna and want to look at a new tv to purchase. I would like to know if I should buy a 1080p or go with 2160p and 4K. I'm not sure what type of a picture I will get with either. I do know some of my content is HD over the air and is really nice for my Sony 55" 720p set. Please any help would be appreciated to get me to the right TV and understanding.

Thanks Phil

Re: Digital Antenna and right TV to buy

The good news is your antenna will work just fine with a 4K tv.

The bad news is OTH (over the air) broadcasts are not in 4k.  Generally 720 is very common, then 1080, and some stations still transmit in 480.

However, other reasons to go with a 4K could be if you have a Netflix or Amazon Prime subscription, some of their programming is in 4K.  You can also get Blu Ray players that can upscale to 4K (or near to 4K).  And many 4K sets now have upscaling built in.  However, I have not seen an example of OTH after upscaling.

The technology is still expanding and in a few years we may start to see 4K broadcasts in larger metro areas.

But I would be willling to be at that time you would need a different antenna or a modification to an existing one.

Re: Digital Antenna and right TV to buy

Thanks for the info. It makes it easier to purchase a new tv having heard from someone who understands the new technology a bit more than myself.

Thanks again.
