I do not believe you can record off of a Apple TV or a ROKU or any of the streaming services.
You should consider a streaming servcie that allows you to watch old episodes.
There are a number of service available that will work very well through ROKU. Many of the major networks have their contenct availble. However, some of them will require an additional monthly service fee.
The part I find frustrating about usign streaming services is the inability to skip commercials like you can with a TIVO or some such.
IF you can receive over the air broadcasts you may consider a TIVO OTA. However, by the time you pay for it and the service you could purchase cable for 5 or 6 years.

Hi ArleneHita,
Thank you for reaching out regarding your questions about recording your favorite shows without a cable or satellite service.
bobberuchi provided a great option if you are wanting to record shows from over the air broadcasts. To boost your signal and reception you can also get an antenna. Here's a guide to pick one for you home.
Currently, DVR type recorders aren't compatible with streaming devices.
I'd also look into a Sling TV subscription, or even HULU (which now has a commercial free subscription option.) Both subscription will let you watch on demand.
Personally, I use HULU and it's the only way I watch my favorite shows. The only down side is that I have to wait a day to see them, and there's potential that it may be spoiled for me on social media.
Please let me know if you have questions about antennas, or a streaming device! I'd be happy to help you.
Best Wishes,
