Amazon Fire TV Omni Series - Use with universal remote

I just purchased an Amazon Fire TV Omni Series 50". How can you use a universal non-Fire remote for basic TV funtions like power on/off and volume control?

I have a remote for my cable box to change channels and use the cable features. The cable remote can be programmed to control basic TV functions like power, volume and input by using the remote code assigned to the TV brand.  EVERY TV allows this (except possibly this one).

Hello, harrigill,

Thanks for joining us here on the community forums. Having one remote to rule them all is definitely the quest. It looks like there are only certain universal remotes that will work with the Fire TV's. You can use google to find a selection that might work for you.

Thanks for the reply. Most functions are voice activated on this TV. So if there is to be one remote, it should control those things the TV cannot such as the cable channel box.  If this TV works at all with an IR universal remote, it will have a code. What is that code?  But I am not certain that it even has an IR receiver.

Who makes this TV? When you google remote codes, they are given by TV manufacturer. Amazon is not on any list.

You never elaborated what kind of remote you had. Are you trying to use the cable remote or an off brand remote? These things can be tricky to program so the more information you give us the better we can help.

Specifically a Comcast XR11 cable remote that controls the cable box. Also has programmable power, volume and source for the TV.

Re: Amazon Fire TV Omni Series - Use with universal remote

The Xfinity remote will only control most of the basics of the televisions depending on your model. You may be able to change OTA channels and also control the input of the TV but that's about all you're going to get with the remotes from Comcast.

FYI - Many people who have Comcast now prefer to have one device instead of external streaming devices as it's capable of accessing many popular services without the need to switch inputs and so forth.

My husband wanted Disney Plus on the TV and switching inputs on the TV was a challenge for him so when we tried to get it on our current box we had to upgrade but it was free to do so and now it's working and we sent the old box back. Voice commands are also awesome.

Comcast remote can only control TVs with IR control, your television uses proprietary RF.  You'll likely not find a simple solution universal remote solution for this.

For this reason, and several others, I am returning the TV.
