Smart TV Basics
What makes a TV smart?
It’s a TV that has the ability to connect to the internet, and often carries its own set of pre-selected applications for you to view content on through your TV.
What applications are normally included?
Applications can vary by the manufacturer of the TV, but majority of TV’s that are Smart will have Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, and YouTube. Netflix and Hulu do require a subscription cost to access their content.
How do I know if a TV is smart?
A few things that all SMART TV’s have in common is that they are mostly all 1080p or higher when it comes to resolution. Best Buy does carry a handful that are 720p, but it's rare to see. Also the TV will state in the product title that it is smart, and through-out the product description.
Do I need WI-FI for this to work?
Not necessarily! Your new SMART TV will work just fine without an internet connection, but if you'd like to take advantage of the SMART applications and features connection to the internet is key.
You would need a home network that you can access, most TVs still have an Ethernet port for a hardwired connection. Or you can certainly pick-up that connection with the Wi-Fi receiver that is built into your new SMART TV if your router is in a different room.
