Question 1: How do I connect to a PlayStation 3 (PS3)?

  • Have you tried using your User Guide to help you through this process? If more help is needed follow the steps below.
  1. Plug the microphone into the left or right MIC jack on your headset. Press firmly to make a tight connection. 
  2. Plug one end of the black 3.5 mm cable into the Line In jack on the left side of your headset and the other end into the In-line control unit
  3. Plug the USB connector on the In-line control unit cable into any open USB port on the PS3. 
  4. Does your TV, monitor, or receiver have a headphone jack? This is the quickest and easiest connection method.  If Yes, go to Step 5. If No, go to Step 6. 
  5. Connecting with a headphone jack:
    1. Plug  the green connector on the In-line  control unit cable into  the headphone jack on the TV, monitor, or receiver. You are done and your  headset is ready to use.
    2. To  set up Chat, go to Question 6 (How do I set up Chat on my PS3). 
  6. How is your PS3 connected to your TV/monitor/receiver? If it’s with an AV cable, go to Step 7. If it’s with an HDMI cable, go to Step 8. 
  7. Connecting with an AV cable:
    1. Unplug  the PS3’s red and white (audio) connectors from the TV, monitor, or receiver and plug them into the matching red and white jacks on the included RCA piggyback cable  (the cable with the red and white connectors).
    2. Plug the green connector on the In-line control unit cable into the RCA piggyback cable.
    3. Turn on your PS3, then open the PS3 Settings menu.
    4. Select Sound Settings, then select Audio Output Settings.
    5. Select Audio Input Connector / SCART / AV Multi to send the audio to your headset.
    6. Press X to save the setting. You are done and your headset is ready to use.
    7. To set up Chat, go to Question 6 (How do I set up Chat on my PS3).
  8. Connecting with an HDMI cable:
    1. Leave the HDMI cable that connects your PS3 to your TV, monitor, or receiver plugged in.
    2. Plug the green connector on the In-line control into the RCA piggyback cable (the cable with the red and white connectors).      
    3. Plug the RCA piggyback cable into the AV IN L/R (red and white) audio jacks on the TV, monitor, or receiver.
    4. Plug the red and white connectors on the PS3 AV cable into the red and white jacks on the RCA piggyback cable.
    5. Turn on your PS3, then open the PS3 Settings menu.
    6. Select Sound Settings, then select Audio Multi Output. This setting lets you use the standard PS3 AV cable simultaneously with an HDMI or digital (optical) audio output.
    7. Press X to save the setting. You are done and your headset is ready to use.
    8. To set up Chat, go to Question 6 (How do I set up Chat on my PS3).

Question 2: How do I connect my Gaming Headset to an Xbox 360?

  • Have you tried using your User Guide to help you through this process? If more help is needed follow the steps below.
  1. Plug the microphone into the left or right MIC jack on your headset. Press firmly to make a tight connection. 
  2. Plug one end of the black 3.5 mm cable into the Line In jack on the left side of your headset and the other end into the In-line control unit
  3. Plug one end of the Xbox 360 chat cable into the Xbox Chat jack on the In-line control unit and the other end into the other end into the Xbox 360 controller. 
  4. Plug the USB connector on the In-line control unit cable into any open USB port on the Xbox 360. 
  5. Does your TV, monitor, or receiver have a headphone jack? This is the quickest and easiest connection method. If Yes, go to Step 6. If No, go to Step 7. 
  6. Connecting with a headphone jack: Plug the green connector on the In-line control unit cable into the headphone jack on the TV, monitor, or receiver. You are done and your headset is ready to use. 
  7. How is your PS3 connected to your TV/monitor/receiver? If it’s with an AV cable, go to Step 8. If it’s with an HDMI cable, go to Step 9. 
  8. Connecting with an AV cable:
    1. Unplug  the Xbox 360’s red and white (audio) connectors from the TV, monitor, or receiver and plug them into the matching red and white jacks on the included RCA piggyback cable (the cable with the red and white connectors).
    2. Plug the green connector on the In-line control unit cable into the RCA piggyback cable
  9. Connecting with an HDMI cable:
    1. Leave the HDMI cable that connects your Xbox 360 to your TV, monitor, or receiver plugged in.
    2. Plug the green connector on the In-line control unit cable into the RCA piggyback cable (the cable with the red and white connectors).
    3. Plug the RCA piggyback cable into the Xbox 360 HDMI audio adapter (sold separately).
    4. Plug the Xbox 360 HDMI audio adapter into the AV port on your Xbox 360. You are done and your headset is ready to use.

Question 3a: How do I connect my Gaming Headset to a Windows 7 computer?

  • Have you tried using your User Guide to help you through this process? If more help is needed follow the steps below.
  1. Plug the microphone into the left or right MIC jack on your headset. Press firmly to make a tight connection.
  2. Plug one end of the black 3.5 mm cable into the Line In jack on the left side of your headset and the other end into the In-line control unit
  3. Plug the USB connector on the In-line control unit cable into a USB port on the computer. The green connector is not used. A message tells you that Windows has discovered a new USB audio device.
  4. Click Start, Control Panel, then click Sound.  
  5. Click the Playback tab. 
  6. Make a note of the default devices selected in the Playback list. If you do not want the headset to be the default sound device for Windows sounds, you can reset the default devices to their original settings. 
  7. In the Playback list, select the Rocketfish headset, then select Set Default. A green check appears next to the Rocketfish headset. 
  8. Click Properties, then the Levels tab. 
  9. Slide the Speakers slider to the maximum settings. This setting determines the volume of the chat you hear. You can use the CHAT VOLUME control on the In-line control unit to adjust the chat volume. 
  10. Click OK.
  11. Click the Recording tab.
  12. Make a note of the default devices selected in the Recording list. If you do not want the headset to be the default sound device for Windows sounds, you can reset the default devices to their original settings.
  13. In the Recording list, select the Rocketfish headset,  then select Set Default. A green check appears next to the Rocketfish headset. 
  14. Click Properties, then the Levels tab.
  15. Slide the Microphone slider to the middle setting. This setting determines the volume of your voice that others hear when you speak into the microphone. 
  16. Click OK to close the Sound window.
  17. If you do not want the headset to be the default device for Window sounds, go back to the Playback and the Recording tabs and set the default audio devices for playback and recording back to their original settings. 
  18. Close any open dialog boxes. You are done and your headset is ready for use.

Question 4: How do I connect my Gaming Headset to a Mac computer?

  1. Plug the microphone into the left or right MIC jack on your headset. Press firmly to make a tight connection.
  2. Plug one end of the black 3.5 mm cable into the Line In jack on the left side of your headset and the other end into the In-line control unit
  3. Plug the green connector on the In-line control unit cable into the headphone jack on the computer. 
  4. Plug the USB connector on the In-line control unit cable into a USB port on the computer. The computer recognizes the headset as a new USB audio device and makes it the default audio device and microphone. 
  5. Click the Apple menu icon and go to System Preferences/Sound
  6. Select the Output tab and make sure that the default audio device is set to Rocketfish Headset
  7. Set the Output volume slider on the bottom of the screen to the maximum. This setting determines the chat volume level. You can use the CHAT VOLUME control in-line control unit to adjust the volume. 
  8. Select the Input tab and make sure that the default microphone is set to Rocketfish Headset
  9. Set the Input volume slider to 75%. This setting determines the volume of your voice that others hear when you      speak into the microphone. 
  10. Close the open dialog boxes. You are done and your headset is ready for use.

Question 5: How do I connect my Gaming Headset to a portable audio device, such as an MP3 player?

  • Have you tried using your User Guide to help you through this process? If more help is needed follow the steps below.
  1. Plug the microphone into the left or right MIC jack on your headset. Press firmly to make a tight connection. 
  2. Plug one end of the black 3.5 mm cable into the Line In jack on the left side of your headset and the other end into the headphone jack on the portable audio device. 
  3. Turn on the audio device. Sound plays through your headset.

Question 6: How do I set up Chat on my PS3?

  1. Turn on your PS3, then open the PS3 Settings menu.
  2. Select Accessory Settings.
  3. Select Audio Device Settings.
  4. Set Input Device and Output Device to Rocketfish Headset.
  5. Select OK to save your settings. You are done and your headsets are ready to use.

Question 7: Why isn’t Chat working?

  • Twist the tip of the microphone so the sound holes face your mouth.
  • Unplug and plug the microphone back in pressing firmly to assure a good connection.
  • Make sure the mute indicator on the In-line control unit is not yellow. If the mute indicator is yellow, press the MIC MUTE button to restore sound and turn off the mute indicator.
  • Rotate the CHAT/GAME VOLUME dial on the In-line control unit to adjust the balance between the game volume and the chat volume.
  • Make sure that all connections are correct and secure. Sometimes a cable may appear to be connected but it may not be pressed in all the way.
  • Make sure the USB connector on the In-line control unit cable is connected to your device.
  • If you’re using an Xbox 360
    • Make sure the In-line control unit is connected to the Xbox 360 controller using the supplied chat cable.
    • Try a different Xbox controller.
    • Try recording a message to a friend by selecting My Friends, Send a Message, then Add Voice. If you can hear yourself, the chat problem could be a game issue, a problem on the recipients end, or some other variable not related to the headset.
  • Try testing the microphone by connecting the headset to a smartphone and making a test call or recording a memo. If you can hear yourself, the chat problem could be a game issue, a problem on the recipients end, or some other variable not related to the headset.

Question 8: Why is the mute indicator on the In-line Control unit red?

  • The Mute indicator is red when all audio and chat is muted. Press the ALL MUTE button on the headset to unmute.
