My computer is an iMac version 10.5.8.  When I make all the necessary connections and turn my TV to the right input, nothing shows up on the TV screen.  When I go to System Preferences>Network, it says the FireWire isn't connected even though it obviously is.  The product itself can't be defective as it has worked flawlessly with my Macbook.  Any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

Welcome to Rocketfish.

You may need to verify if both computers use the same Firewire port. They are available in 4 pin, 6 pin, or 9 pin. If they do both use the same style pin, it's going to be a question on the iMac. As you stated, if it works on the MacBook we know the cord itself is still functioning.
