I have a Marantz SR7009 AVR configured for 7.1.4 Dlby Atmos, a Samsung K8500 UHD disc player with two HDMI outputs, and an LG SK9000 TV. The bottom line is that I cannot get Dolby Atmos out of the AVR while displaying an UHD HDR10 image on the display. First the AVR is not HDCP 2.2 compliant. Second the sub (HDMI 2) output on the disc player does not pass Dolby Atmos. This is where the HDMI splitter comes in. I was hoping that I could split the signal coming out of HDMI 1 on the disc player, inserting one cable to an HDMI input on the TV (bypassing the noncompliant AVR) and then attaching the second cable to the bluray input on the AVR. I tested using only the connection to the TV. I get a beautiful HDR 10 image. If I attach the cable to the bluray input on the AVR I get Dolby Atmos sound, but a 1080p image, with the your equipment is not compliant so we will downgrade your picture to HD. I was able to program a delay in starting the AVR. When the TV and disc player come on line the status reads 2160p. After the AVR comes on the image is downgraded. I have checked all the CEC, ARC settings and I am fairly sure I turned them all off. It seems like even though I am going out from the splitter to the TV and to the AVR there is signal coming back through the cable from the AVR, through the splitter, and to the TV. Is this a case of works as sesigned or am I missing something?

As it turns out the Samsung disc player does does not natively decode Dolby Atmos. It relies on the receiver to decode the signal. I upgraded my UBD-K8500 disc player with a Sony UBP-X800. Now I have great sound with a great picture. Thank you.
