4K HDMI Splitter RF-G1603 not working as expected

Hi,

I am trying to connect my Xbox One S to both a LG 4K HDR TV and an Onkyo NR-636 receiver. The reason is that the TV supports HDR but the receiver does not. So I want to split the HDMI signal coming out of the Xbox to make the TV display HDR content while the receiver plays the Atmos sound from the same HDMI source.

If I connect the xbox to the splitter and then to the TV, it works. But as soon as I plug in the cable connecting the 2nd port of the splitter to the receiver, then the xbox systems downgrades the resolution to 1080p and the audio is not Atmos anymore.

Is there a requirement that both the TV and the receiver should support the same set of features (4K, HDR, etc)?

My expectation is that one target doesn't affect the other target.

What am I missing?

Thanks,

Marcos

Re: 4K HDMI Splitter RF-G1603 not working as expected

Hello Marcos,

Welcome to our community.

The following is from the product Quick Setup Guide's troubleshooting section:

Check for a confirmation indicator in the top left or right corner of the screen. If you do not see this, or you see a message stating that either you need to connect the HDR source to an HDR-compatible TV or the incoming signal has been downgraded to 1080p due to the lack of proper HDR detection, check the following:

  • Use High-Speed HDMI cables (18 Gbps speed recommended).
  • Make sure that all components involved are HDR compatible.
  • Go into your source component's video resolution output settings and, if necessary, change the resolution output setting to 4K (sometimes labeled 4K/2K) and see if that corrects the problem.
  • Make sure your TV/Video Projector’s firmware is up to date.
  • If none of the above work, contact tech support for your TV/video projector.

I hope this helps. Thank you for writing to us.

Re: 4K HDMI Splitter RF-G1603 not working as expected

This has been an ongoing problem.  Just this last couple of days I believe we solved the issues that everyone has had.  The USB power supply that is part of the package is too small.  It is 0.2w.  This splitter needs at least 0.5w to work properly.  Use the most powerful USB power supply you may have at your disposal--a cell phone charger or a computer charger.

After fussing with all possibilities, we realized that was the problem.  Everything should work perfectly if there is enough power supplied to the splitter.
