An open-box item can be a floor model, refurbished merchandise, or a return, and is marked down accordingly.  I personally have purchased several open-box items at fantastic prices and have had great success!  Good luck!

Sometimes you can hit a "jackpot" open item, one you open up and can tell it wasnt used at all.. someone bought it and said nahh I dont need this.

I actually just spent the weekend helping a friend connect their new iPod to iTunes and found that it would not connect unless we downloaded the latest version of iTunes – iTunes 8.  Have you tried this? 

As far as your iTunes purchased items being missing, I would suggest reaching out to Apple Support directly for proper assistance.  I hope this helps!
