Over the past few weeks, I have made purchases totaling over $2,000.  I just discovered that none of it will count towards my Best Buy rewards.  These purchases were made with gift cards.  I gave the cashier my rewards number when making these purchases, and none of them said anything about my purchases not counting towards rewards.  I have read about identical issues being experienced by other Best Buy rewards members.  The rationale I have seen being used by Best Buy employees is that the company wants the rewards to go to whomever purchased the gift cards.  I purchased the gift cards.  They just weren't purchased from Best Buy.  In the end, Best Buy still got the money.

I have also read that members can be invited to join Elite and Elite Plus without fulfilling the standard criteria ($1,500 and $3,500 spent, respectively) at the discretion of Best Buy.  Is this a possibility for my situation?

Re: Rewards

Hi there ThunderChunky,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for reaching out to us! It sounds like you've made quite a few purchases with us recently. I'm sure you were excited to redeem the Best Buy gift cards you purchased from other retailers, and see some rewards.

With that said, the redemption of Best Buy gift cards (as well as My Best Buy reward certificates) do not qualify for points under our My Best Buy Terms. Generally speaking, the purchase of gift cards qualifies for base points, but the gift cards would need to be purchased through us and not a third party.

I understand that this may not be the news you were hoping for. Should you have any ideas for changes you wish to see in our My Best Buy program, I would encourage you to share them through IdeaX

To qualify for Elite or Elite Plus, members must spend the respective $1500 or $3500 in a calendar year. Without meeting these spending requirements, we would be unable to upgrade your tier status.
