Reward Certificate Only Has a 30 Day Expiration Date?

I participated in, and completed, a Best Buy/Citibank promotion where if I spent at least $300 outside of Best Buy using my BB/Citi card during within the stated period of time, I would earn $30 worth of rewards.

As a BestBuy Elite member, I expected that the points would be added to my banked points account. However, it appears that not only were the points not banked, but a certificate was automatically issued. On top of that, it also appears that the Rewards Certificate has ALREADY EXPIRED after only being issued on 4/3/2019. I wasn't aware that any certificates expired prior to 60 days of issue. Finally, since the promotion period ran from 3/15 to 4/20, it wasn't even on my radar to check up on this until now.

I am a bit frustrated at this situation. I have been a loyal BestBuy customer for the past 15+ years and want to continue to do business with a company with which I have had, for the most part, 5-star customer service experiences. Should the points have been banked to my points account in the first place? Are there certificates with less than 60 day expiration dates? Is there anything that can be done about this?

I apologize for any confusion about your bonus certificate. I will do what I can to help provide clarity. Bonus certificates are extra promotional offers that are extended to you, and would not be banked in your points account. This would be separate from the standard certificates that are earned by the points you gain from your purchases. Bonus certificates will typically have shorter validity time frames in comparison to everyday certificates that are issued from earned points. This information would have been detailed in the email you received about the offer, as well as on the bonus certificate itself.
