Hello, I have run out of ideas as to who to ask or how to find someone who knows anything about this promotion, or Best Buy Rewards, or been able to speak with anyone the least bit knowledgeable, helpful, or friendly within the Best Buy ecosystem. Maybe this will work...

 

Why are all "monthly bills" now listed under the Merchant Category - Restaurants?

I thought "dining purchases" earned 2% back in rewards?z

Can someone please explain this to me?

 

Please DO NOT give me a phone number to call; I spent an hour and forty-nine minutes on Wednesday talking to 4 different people at Best Buy as well as CITI bank before hanging up on hold waiting for a fifth person because none of them had any idea what I was talking about, let alone any answers. I then drove to Best Buy to find an empty parking lot and shuttered store.

Welcome to our community forums. This is a great promotions so I can absolutely understand wanting to make sure you take full advantage of it while it's active. I'd be happy to provide some additional details. Qualifying purchases for this promotion depend on how they are classified by the company receiving these payments. If these monthly bills were previously under the correct purchase category I would encourage you to continue working with Citibank. As these cards are issued and administered by them they will have access to the best tools to assist you with this.

No, I'm afraid that does not help me at all. I already spoke with CITI bank and was instructed to talk to Best Buy. The companies receiving these payments (Xfinity, PG & E, Youtube, Netflix, etc.) are most certainly not classifying themselves as restaurants, so someone obviously changed the classification of "Utility-like" businesses. If you are 100% certain that this is CITI bank's doing, and not Best Buy, then why doesn't Best Buy contact CITI bank to resolve this problem. What are the odds that this is just my account and not all of them? If these transactions are going to process as restaurants with a 2% bonus, then this promotion for a 10% bonus is false advertising. Is anyone at Best Buy responsible for promotions? Is anyone at Best Buy responsible for anything? If you insist on me contacting CITI bank, then please tell me specifically who to contact and how. I'm sure you won't do that, so PLEASE have a human being from Best Buy call me as soon as possible. I have spent too many hours of my time on this to continue dialing 1-800 numbers without any specific direction. I need someone from Best Buy to explain to me (live and verbally) why you think it's my responsibility to fix the error in your promotion, and if that remains the case, direct me as to exactly how I can accomplish this for your company.

I can understand wanting to ensure that you receive any bonuses that you may qualify for. This particular promotion for this particular promotion does not end until March 31. Any earned bonuses would not be awarded until after the promotional period has ended. If you do not receive the promotion after that time, please feel free to send me a Private Message.
