Disappointed in Lack of Point Banking at Lowest Tier

I don't know when this policy was introduced/changed, but I don't recall being limited on my point banking until I hit higher membership tiers years ago. I just learned of this earlier in the week and am pretty frustrated by it, almost to the point of cancelling my BestBuy credit card.

The lack of point banking disincentivizes me from using the Best Buy credit card at all when other credit cards allow me to accumulate as many rewards as I want. If point banking started on the lowest tier, I would be more likely to spend more on large electronics and appliances if my smaller purchases accumulated over time to provide me a decent discount on the large item(s). I don't want to be forced into shopping for low-cost, undesirable trinkets just to use my expiring auto-generated reward certificates before I actually wanted to buy something of meaningful value to me. Also, that coercion makes me feel that I'm not actually getting the 5% back, because I'm having to throw it to the wind on undesirable goods. It's pointless. Additionally, if I do buy something expensive and get a ton of points, I would be furious at the prospect of losing hundreds of dollars in rewards if I couldn't quicly find something else to blow them on. It's a losing proposition in either direction for me.

Please consider modifying this policy.

Re: Disappointed in Lack of Point Banking at Lowest Tier

Hey, jyoungblood,

Thank you for taking the time to share feedback about the benefits of the My Best Buy program at Core level. Currently, it is indeed correct to say that the point banking option is only available to Elite and Elite Plus My Best Buy members. Core members have not unlocked that benefit, yet, so certificates will automatically issue.

I can see where you're coming from regarding wanting to have more control over when your certificates will issue. While not point banking, as a Core My Best Buy member, you do have the option to update your certificate preferences on your account to auto issue at either $5, $10, or $20. While it will not allow you to save up the same amount of points as points banking, updating that preference to a higher dollar amount is something you may want to look into if you have not already done so. Learn more about the current benefits offered at each level of the My Best Buy program here

With all of that said, it will be my pleasure to record your feedback about the program here at the corporate level. To ensure the most detailed record, please send me a private message with your full name, phone number, and email address. I look forward to hearing from you!

Kind regards,
