Certificates issued and expired without my approval

I have been an Elite customer for a long time, since last year I have been making purchases with the hope to accumulate my points for a big purchase, I selected to bank my points in my settings.

 

Without my permission or my knowledge Best Buy's system has been creating certificates that I didnt request and now they are expired. I have been calling best buy for the last two weeks to try to resolve this issue and the representative keeps telling me that they cannot help me and there are no supervisors available but one wil be calling me from 24 to 48 hours. This has been the longest 48 hours since i have been calling them for the last 2 weeks.

 

I think that Best Buy is scamming their customers by offering these points and then issuing certificates that expire without anyone's knowledge. I should have more than $400 dollars worth of points and now i only have 1000 points ($20) because all of them have expired. Beware of Best Buy's dishonest practices, that take advantage of unaware customers.

 

In my last call today, the rep had the gall to say that they will not be able to reinstate my points because they issued the certs and i let them expire!!! That comment just made me angrier than the whole point situation. I expect a call from a supervisor ASAP and all my points reinstated and left ALONE!!

Thank you for contacting us on our forum for support and for being an Elite member. It's great that you are part of our My Best Buy program and have been earning rewards for your purchases. I understand your concern with this, though, when learning that your accumulated earned points were converted to certificates that eventually expired. Furthermore, I'm sorry you didn't receive the callbacks you were promised to provide further assistance with your account.

 

As an Elite member, you should have the option to bank your points, and you can update/check your reward preference in the "Rewards" section of your account. Here are two posts that can help answer your point banking questions as well:

My selection was always to bank my points, that is why I was very surprised to see Certificates issued and expired!! I need my points, I earned them and is unconscionable to arbitrarily issue and then exprire without my consent!!! I want my points reinstated!!!!

Members beware, I even had a customer service rep admiting that they were having issues with the system, now they are not goingt o honor my points, disgraceful!!

This is not a solution!!! This is another tactic to ignore my request, BTW this is the 3rd week I am waiting for a customer service supervisor to call me - So much for 24-48 hours!!!

Hi, armansan,

 

As Allison previously mentioned, members with Elite and Elite Plus status have the option to bank their points, and it is just that, an option.  Your certificate preference wouldn't have changed to bank when your status was upgraded to Elite, and in-fact, you would need to have logged into your rewards account and changed it to bank.  It likely wasn't set to bank if certificates were being automatically issued.  Please feel free to send us a private message, as Allison offered, and we'll take a closer look at your rewards account.  Just click here and make sure to include your name, phone number, and email address.
