Certificate issued instead of points being banked

I received an email offering me a $10 reward certificate for using my new Best Buy credit card to spend $30 outside of Best Buy. I am a Best Buy elite member, and was expecting the $10 to be added to my banked points (point banking is and has been turned on the entire time). Instead, I got a notification that I got an actual reward certificate. I would like to have the certicate converted into banked points

Re: Certificate issued instead of points being banked

Good afternoon, PointsGuy,

One of the main reasons I continue trying to reach Elite status each year is because I would like to one day have the option to bank my points rather than having them automatically converted into certificates.  It's a great way to avoid expiration dates, and I've lost a certificate or two over the years to expiration dates.  As far as the email you received, we occasionally have promotions that offer select members with the My Best Buy™ Visa card the opportunity to earn bonus certificate by using their Visa card to make purchases outside of Best Buy.  The bonus should generally post within about four weeks after meeting the spend requirement.

While your certificate preference is currently set to bank points, the Visa outside spend bonuses are awarded in the form of an actual certificate.  Those bonuses don't have a point value.  That is why nothing was added to your current balance of banked points.  If you were to check your rewards history back when the bonus was awarded you'll notice that zero points were awarded and a $10 certificate was added.  That bonus certificate can't be converted into points, so I would suggest trying to redeem it before it expires.  Let us know if you have any other questions.

Best Wishes,
