Birthday coupon offer

I recently had a birthday coupon offer (10% off) on my account (valid for month of March). At the time I went to my local store, there were two days left before the coupon expired. I purchased a newly released steel book (the movie was a new release from the prior month.

Because the movie had been put on "sale" (read - reduced in price from its pre-release price of like $30 to release day pricing of like $20-$25), the in store checkout system would not accept the 10% off discount, because the movie was on sale.

Let's be realistic, the movie isn't going to go back up in price, it's only going to be further reduced the older it gets. Deep in the fine print was a long list of excluded items for the coupon. In looking at the exclusion list, it's basically everything in the store. There's very little that the coupon WOULD cover.

Why issue out a discount coupon and then have a long list of exclusions basically making the coupon not worth using?

Re: Birthday coupon offer

Hi there, cbrookhart,

Welcome back to our community, and happy belated birthday! Smiley Happy

I’m a sucker for any sort of freebie or special coupon, so I can definitely understand your excitement to redeem a special birthday coupon.  I also know from my own experience that it can feel pretty disappointing to discover an item you had your eyes on didn’t qualify for a particular promotion.  I was unhappy to hear this happened to you when trying to take advantage of your 10% birthday coupon.

As with most Best Buy offers and coupons, sales items are often excluded from the list of qualifying items on which a coupon like this can be applied to.  We do our best to ensure you’re fully aware of what is and is not applicable with any special offer we send your way, and we encourage customers to fully review the terms and conditions at the bottom of the page for any important information.  If you haven’t done so already, I truly hope you’ll find another item at Best Buy that you can put this coupon towards as a special gift for yourself.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us and for visiting our forums.

Re: Birthday coupon offer

How is it a sale if you add a pre release movie to the site and then on release day, change the price from pre release pricing (more expensive) to release day pricing (less expensive)? Why not just list the item at its intended price from the beginning?

Why exclude pretty much the entire store as far as eligible items? As the customer, why do I have to take the time to analyze the item and determine if fits anywhere in the fine print?

Re: Birthday coupon offer

As Sam mentioned, the birthday coupon has exclusions like any other coupon.  There are terms and conditions that would need to be met in-order to redeem the coupon, which are provided with each coupon.  It is up to the member to read over them.  While it that coupon may have what seems like a longer list of exclusions, there are still a wide variety of items available in-store and on BestBuy.com that the coupon can be applied. An item being on sale is going to be excluded.  Please feel free to send us a private message by clicking here if you have any other questions.

Best Wishes,
