25 Points per review? - Not quite

Best Buy encourages users to submit product reviews with the promise of a points reward per review, typically 25 points which is worth about 50 cents. However, after taking advantage of this program, I discovered the hard way that the program is actually misrepresented. The truth of the matter is that there is a 200 point per calendar year reward limit for posting reviews. In spite of apparently hitting this maximum this year, I continue to receive emails promising me points in return for my reviews. Also, when clicking on an item to be reviewed, the promise is further clarified and extended by indicating that my review would be worth at least 25 points. I find that this practice is unethical, and possibly illegal. If I have already hit my points rewards maximum for the year, why is there no indication anywhere you click and why would I continue to receive emails that specifically make a promise to give a points reward for posting reviews? The emails should cease upon hitting the point maximum and the promise of points when clicking on each item to be reviewed should also be discontinued once the points maximum has been hit. I am somewhat new to the program and am now curious to know what other promises I have been given have been broken

Re: 25 Points per review? - Not quite

Hello, psinkiws,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for connecting with us regarding your review bonus points! It's fantastic to hear you've chosen to share your thoughts on this bonus, as well as your thoughts on the products you've purchased. These thoughts are always welcomed by our other customers who may be looking for insight on a product.

As a token of our appreciation for you taking the time to share your thoughts on products, we do offer a 25 point bonus reward for the first eight reviews you post every calendar year. We do our best to make our customers aware of this limitation as it is noted down at the bottom of the page when writing a review. I understand you may have received marketing emails advising you of this offer, but please know that this is a general email out to customers who have recently shopped with us, and not contingent on the number of reviews you may have previously posted.

We greatly appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback on this bonus with us! For more details, you are always welcome to review offer terms as well as our My Best Buy Terms

Thank you,

Re: 25 Points per review? - Not quite

It seems that this is just another case of "if it sounds too goo to be true, it probably is". Apparently the fine print at the bottom is not just there to test your vision. I do thank you for at least having the courtesy to reply, even if it wasn't the answer I was hoping for. I will likely not be posting any more reviews since I do not have the time to track how many reviews I have made within a given calendar year and it is clear that Best Buy will not be alerting me to the fact that I have reached my quota even though I am signed in and Best Buy has easy access to these records. I still feel it is deceptive to continue to offer points both by email and by beginning the review process where the "minimum" number of points for the review is clearly listed on top. Anyone interested in posting a review must do this on their own without expecting any reward and consider any points received to be an unexpected bonus.

Re: 25 Points per review? - Not quite

Hello, psinkiws,

I'm truly dismayed to hear you may choose to stop sharing your feedback on products as you will not be receiving further rewards for your reviews until 2020. You should be able to easily review your point history to quickly check how many times you've been awarded points for a review, should you choose to share you reviews again in the future.

Thank you for posting!

Re: 25 Points per review? - Not quite

I have been emailed by Best Buy, presumably their automated response, to mark a solution as being acceptable. The only solution I would consider acceptable is for Best Buy to discontinue the practice of promoting Rewards for Reviews even after one has reached the annual rewards maximum for reviews (revealed only by reading the fine print). Until that point, there is no "acceptable" solution. The deception is further continued when clicking on an item to be reviewed and seeing the supposed minimum points reward for that review. None of those promotional points reward offers were buried in the fine print but were prominently displayed. I was initially encouraged by getting a minor reward for each review but then discouraged to a higher degree upon learning about the limits imposed in the fine print. I am under no obligation to provide additional value to Best Buy's website by posting reviews.
