$100 reward stolen by instore purchase!!!

Hello

I had $100 in reward certificates and I was rolling them since long time by contacting to bestbuy online customer support. 2-3 days back I received some mails they were splitted in lower denominations that may be one of my request some time back when I was not able to use them on lower amount cart value. After receiving I trued to order a headphone worth $100 but I couldnt locate any reward. Since it takes 24 hours generally so I just ignored it. Today again, when I was not able to locate them I sent a mail to bestbuy online support. Then they told that those points I have consumed 2 days back on some iTunes gift card!!! Then I checked order history and found that someone ready did with a instore purchase that is 175 miles far from me!!! My email is registered but Indisnt get any email notification. Also, reward points cant be used against gift cards that I had verified many times by trying ordering online then how points got used on GC this time? Disnt they ask his ID card while using store purchase?
Things look fishy here. I am rolling those rewards since long time, has any bestbuy associate done that? I suspect BB association in this case. Whatever, it is not acceptable at all.
How I can recover it?

Since BB was very well aware about these rewards they must have given my information to someone else. It is very strange that they just ask for mobile number for this kind of purchase instead of verifying their ID thats what happened!
And this instance is not new. It has been happened many times with other candidates as well still BB didn’t improve their process.
I hope, someone from BB authority can contact me and cancel this purchase immediately and credit points.

I can imagine the questions that may have ran through your head after receiving emails that multiple reward certificates had been issued and then to find out they were redeemed but not by you.  I can barely fathom having a $100 worth of points let alone someone else finding a way into my account.  First and foremost, I would suggest resetting your password if you have not done so already.  You may even want to consider resetting your password every couple of months just to be safe.  I try to reset my own passwords for different logins every other month.

 

Just to briefly touch on a topic you brought up.  While reward certificates cannot be used to purchase most, if not all, pre-paid gift cards on BestBuy.com, they can still be used to purchase some pre-paid gift cards in-store.  It is a restriction on BestBuy.com.  With that having been said, I would like to go over your account with you in additional detail to see what I can do to further assist and will be sending you a private message shortly to do so.  You can read private messages by first logging into the forum and then clicking on the envelope icon at the top of the page.
