scam Geek Squad 399.99

[ Edited ]

Hello, just reaching out after a few phone calls from soneone posing as a GeekSquad Best Buy representative, from a phone number of {removed per forum guidelines}, {removed per forum guidelines}, {removed per forum guidelines} and {removed per forum guidelines}

I finally answered the 4th call and kept saying "warranty was going to expire tomorrow and they needed approval and will be charged tomorrow for renewing this "warranty" for $399.99.  attmempted to get number for the "owner to call them back", they asked a good time to call back.

they never did leave a message.  said it was for "windows" after multiple questions to inquire further what they were talking about...and i finally just hung up on them.

Just thought you would want to know whis is happening

Thanks

It seems to be happening more and more, whether they’re posing as Microsoft, Geek Squad, Verizon, etc. it’s always the same ploy. Unfortunately with phone number spoofing there is very little that can be done from our end. The FTC wants you to report scam calls and emails to them with the intent to someday block or at least slow the flood of scammers.

rngiggler,

Welcome to our community. I too get numerous calls from numbers I don't recognize offering to assist me with services I never purchased. It can be disorienting when this happens--at least for me--so I try to be careful not to be hornswoggled by the caller.

jdogg836 offers some keen insight into these kinds of calls and I underscore his advice to contact appropriate authorities to report those calls that may be attempting to take advantage of you.

Please know I am grateful you brought your concerns to our attention..
