Up sell charge to put a screen protector on a phone

I bought a screen protector from you guys and asked if someone could put it on for me and was told sure but it will cost $7.99 to do so.  I have never heard of such a thing. Then I was told if we had geek squad they can do it for free, so yes i have geek squad and when they found my account, apparently I have an older version of geek squad that doesn't include putting the screen saver on for free. When we renew our geek squad it when then offer it. So already irratated I tried to call the customer service number and got no where. Transferred twice to a dept that couldn't help me and then requested a supervisor and was again transferred to a useless dept. I have bought thousands of dollars of merchandise from bestbuy and they cant put a screen saver on for free that I bought at the store. What a shame!!!!!!

Re: Up sell charge to put a screen protector on a phone

The $7.99 installation fee ($14.99 for tablets) has been around for quite a few years. Our teams have gotten quite a bit of practice installing the protectors without bubbles, dust specks, or fingerprints stuck under the screen. This is the sort of installation that takes time and if we damage the shield during installation it is on us. Because of this, there is a small fee associated with it.

It is true that our new Toral Tech Support has inclusions for the shield installation along with many other services statewide.

What a joke. Seems like a way to charge your customers more money. If the techs are that good they shouldn't have any problems putting them on at no charge. I could understand the charge if I didn't purchase the screen saver from the store.

Re: Up sell charge to put a screen protector on a phone

Hey nicole927,

I see where you are coming from on this, and having tried to put a screen protector on my own phone I can attest to how difficult it can be to do. It is correct that we do charge to put a screen protector on a customer's phone. This is a service we charge for, and I do apologize if you don't feel like this is something that should cost a customer for us to do. Is there something specific you would like me to get done for you in this matter?

Thanks,

Honestly I just want my $8.00 back. Your customer service phone line stinks and when my geek squad is up I will reconsider renewing it. I have never had a problem with best buy before but I cant believe all this headache. I am definately not happy with best buy at all right now.

Do you complain at a mechanic's garage because they don't give you a free oil change? It is as service offered by the company. You aren't being forced to utlilize it.

Good morning nicole927,

I’m sorry to hear this experience has led you to question your future with Best Buy.  While I’ll be unable to offer you a refund of the service our Geek Squad has performed, I’ll be happy to explore other options with you.

I’ve been unable to locate any purchases of a screen protector with us using the information you’ve provided upon joining the forums.  With that said, I’d like to gather a few pieces of additional information from you, which I’ll be doing via private message.  To read my message, you’ll need to be logged into your Support Forum account, and click on the orange envelope in the upper right-hand corner of your screen.
