Return

Hello, my family and I shop a ton at Best Buy. We received a family gift of a nest thermostat. We were told they bought it at Best Buy in case we needed to return it. We already have a smart thermostat so we do not need.

Today, I attempted to return via drive up in Ankeny, Iowa. A nice lady cane out, collected info since I didn’t have a receipt. She said the phone number didn’t have record of the purchase, and they were not willing to give me credit in store.

I asked why, and she said they sometimes do credit and sometimes not, and to come back another time and try again.

This is absolutely unacceptable to me to have such wishy washy response. I will not ever buy another item from this Best Buy again, and think twice before shopping with you.

I will gladly take this to your competitors and get in store credit and shop more with them.

I hope you can address this awful experience with the store in Ankeny, as they have always seemed mismanaged.

Re: Return

depending on the circumstances and when it was bought, the only option is sometimes to return the funds to the original form of payment. while that seems silly of Best Buy to not want to give their customers store credit instead of actual refunds, that is just how it is sometimes.

Re: Return

Target, Walmart just to name two. You ever do a return?

Re: Return

Target requires a receipt, just encountered that the day before yesterday. Luckily I provided the correct purchaser information and they found the transaction for me. Not sure about Walmart, but their website says they require a receipt as well.

Re: Return

I’ve done returns at target without receipt. Quit spreading wrong info. This is a great forum for Best Buy.

Re: Return

I was sharing my experience, Target was not willing to return it without a receipt. I stupidly left it at home when I know better. After all, what proof did I have that I got it from Target except the receipt. It was my proof of purchase. Like I said, they helped me find a copy since I used a credit card. They would have been unwilling otherwise. It says that in their return policy “without a receipt returns may be limited”. In other words, you were fortunate enough to be granted an exception.

That would be the same policy at Best Buy. Of course, #1 is keep your proof of purchase. I choose email receipts and have a folder I keep them in, #2 would be to always make sure it’s attached to your rewards account so we can look up your purchase in case you didn’t bring/or have lost your receipt.

Re: Return

Here what I’ll do. I’ll go return an item to target without a receipt (when they take returns again). When they accept it, I’ll send my experience to the better business bureau, including snapshots of this board. In addition, I’ll take to social media and newspapers sharing the experience.

A simple apology and explanation would have done wonders.

Re: Return

I'm sorry that they didn't find your receipt through our lookup tools.  While we provide ample means to keep track of your receipts on your behalf it is ultimately your responsibility to retain that proof of purchase.  It is in our Returns Promise that is posted online at BestBuy.com, printed on your receipt, and posted in the store.

Im not sure why you keep attacking my personal experience with Target.  I have never been offered a return without a receipt there, albeit I don't shop there a lot I have had about 10 returns I've done over 16 years.  I can only offer you my experience and what is printed in their policy.  I'm glad they're going outside of their printed policy for you.
